MMOs are the bread and butter of PC-gaming. With vast worlds and countless ways to interact with other players, they’ve defined the gaming experience on that platform. Now, we’re getting so many console ports that open the gametype up to new players. So here’s a list of 10 MMOs, that are both already out and also coming out later this year. Some may be console exclusive to specific consoles, such as Xbox having two MMOs exclusive to their platform right now, but should see expansion hopefully by end of the year.

10. Bless Unleashed

Publisher: BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America
Developer: NEOWIZ
Console(s): Xbox One
Price: Free-to-play

Bless Unleashed has held an open beta for the Xbox One version of the game and I believe even now if you link your Xbox and BANDAI NAMCO accounts you will get an exclusive mount. There isn’t a solid release date for when Bless Unleashed will be coming out to the public, but let’s hope that this game is received better on consoles than it has been on PC. There’s currently no hard release date for when Bless Unleashed will be released to Xbox One.

9. Phantasy Star Online 2 (PSO2)

MMOs - But Why Tho (2)

Publisher: SEGA
Developer: SEGA
Console(s): Xbox One
Price: Free-to-play

PSO2 is the sequel to the console MMORPG, Phantasy Star Online, which was playable on the OG Xbox, Nintendo Gamecube, and Sega Dreamcast. With a beta set to be released exclusively on the Xbox One in the coming months, this is surely a game to keep an eye out for. It is set to be released in the West for the very first time on Xbox One Spring 2020.

8. Skyforge

MMOs - But Why Tho (2)

Publisher: My.com
Developer: Allods Team, Obsidian Entertainment
Console(s): Xbox One, PS4
Price: Free-to-play

Probably one of the lesser known free-to-play console MMORPGs on this list, Skyforge, allows you to possession of a lesser god. As you play through the story and earn reputation, you will be granted the ability to transform into a “true god” and show off your flashy God Form to smite anything that gets in your way. Skyforge does have a unique combat style and also unique classes to play as well.

7. Neverwinter

MMOs - But Why Tho (2)

Publisher: Perfect World Entertainment
Developer: Cryptic Studios
Console(s): Xbox One, PS4
Price: Free-to-play

Neverwinter is rather a behemoth of an MMOs as it’s been consistently updated with new FREE content drops over the years, with it’s the newest content, Infernal Descent, coming to PC on January 21, 2020. Though it’s updated first on PC, console players will get the new update within months of the PC release. If you’re looking for a solid MMORPG with a deep story and some good ‘ole dragon slaying, pick up this game. Plus as a free-to-play title, you can’t really beat that.

6. DC Universe Online (DCUO)

MMOs - But Why Tho (2)

Publisher: Daybreak Game Company
Developer: Daybreak Game Company
Console(s): Xbox One, PS4, PS3, Nintendo Switch
Price: Free to Play

Which do you prefer, being the hero or being the villain? If you can’t decide then, DCUO allows you to make both. DCUO takes players and allow them to visit iconic areas and either assist of battle characters in the DC Universe. With a pretty decent character creator, where some things are behind a paywall, you can make that ideal character you have always wanted. Also DCUO is a free-to-play MMORPG as well.

5. Black Desert Online (BDO)

MMOs But Why Tho 5

Publisher: Pearl Abyss
Developer: Pearl Abyss
Console(s): PS4, Xbox One
Price: $9.99 / Free on Xbox Game Pass

Black Desert Online has probably some of the most beautiful graphics and one of the most visceral combat mechanics out right now on console. Though not a free-to-play title, it can be played freely under Xbox’s Game Pass program. So if you’re looking to play a really cool class with one of the most in-depth character customization systems to date, check this game. However be warned, endgame can be a be dissuading because it has a strong emphasis on PvP.

4. Warframe

MMOs But Why Tho 8

Publisher: Digitial Extremes
Developer: Digital Extremes
Console(s): PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One
Price: Free-to-play

One of the most intricate and fair free-to-play games on the market, Warframe, let’s you take on being a space ninja. Warframe lets you earn everything you could want in-game as long as you’re willing to work for it. There is a cash shop, but it’s there for convenience to get things faster. I’d recommend this game if you looking for a fun fast-paced game with tons of weapons and lots of customization.

3. Elder Scrolls Online (ESO)

MMOs But Why Tho 7

Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
Developer: Zenimax Online Studios
Console(s): PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia
Price: $19.99

ESO is one of those games that is meant to play to enjoy the rich story and lore of the lands you encounter. Touting 3 epic stories to explore, a unique PvP experience, fully voice acted NPCs, and more, ESO is well worth the money. The expansions though are paid come with a lot more of extra content, and allow you access to some iconic places within the world of Elder Scrolls. However, if you feel the purchase of all the DLC is too much, you can get it all for a monthly subscription.

2. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 (Div2)

MMOs But Why Tho 10

Publisher: Ubisoft
Developer: Massive Entertainment
Console(s): PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia
Price: $59.99

Though it has had a rocky launch, Ubisoft’s sequel to Tom Clancy’s The Division is still a fun game to play. With a lot of upgrades brought to the newer game that was needed in its predecessor Div2 has come a long way. Still being updated with to make the game more enjoyable, Div 2 does have a decent story and a fun endgame, tagged in with a Bounty Hunting system and also their first-ever raid for the series.

1. Destiny 2

MMOs But Why Tho 9

Publisher: Bungie
Developer: Bungie
Console(s): Xbox One, PS4, Google Stadia
Price: Free-to-play

If you’re on the fence about any of these console games, I would highly suggest you give Destiny 2 a shot. Originally a buy to play game, its transition into the realm of free-to-play as of 2019 shook up the competition. Allowing players to play a game that has memorable characters, hated enemies, and fun to use special moves, along with a variety of events held often, Destiny 2, is sure to please.
