Scooby Apocalypse #34

For over a year, this comic series has become one of my favorites to read. I couldn’t think of a better way to get through the week than to read a comic that will surely have you flipping through the pages wanting to know what happens next. Each issue brings something unique, which manages to carry the story forward rather than have it stray into a different direction. I’ve come to discover that this series will never cease to amaze me. Scooby Apocalypse #34, which is published by DC Comics, is written by J.M. DeMatteis, with Pat Olliffe as the penciler. The coloring is done by Hi-Fi Color and the lettering is done by Travis Lanham. The final war with Fred and his nanite-powered army is about to begin. The gang tries to make all sorts of preparations for the big battle. The Scooby gang could quite possibly be mankind’s last hope for survival. Also included in the issue, a continuation of the adventures of Atomic-Ant and the Justice League.

One of the common elements that I’ve noticed in the comics I’ve read this month is a character reflection on their life and the decisions they’ve made. The short segment at the beginning shows Velma’s journey up to where the story is currently set. It’s a perfect example of character development but also shows that her character hasn’t quite finished her journey yet. Without revealing too much, the writer made me sympathize with Velma and gave me a reason to understand that she did want to create something great.

The continuous conflict between Fred and Daphne continues in this issue. Normally, I wouldn’t be interested in these sort of segments in comics. But this comic has made me care for what will happen between these two characters, which definitely deserves to be acknowledged. It’ll be interesting to see how it continues to play out and to whether Daphne can truly accept this new version of Fred.

The art style and colors in Scooby Apocalypse #34 continue to depict what a disaster of that magnitude could look like. All the monsters look genuinely terrifying, which will make me come back to this series with every new installment. The art adds an extra level on intensity, showing readers just how important this final battle really is. The chaos and effects of a battle like this being drawn out with passion are amazing. It’s fantastic to see artists care this much about the comics they work on.

I have to briefly mention the Nanite King and just how menacing he is. His mere presence screams “horror” and I’m completely captivated. He reminds me of the Knight King from Game of Thrones, which only makes me want to see his character more. The fact that he wasn’t really shown his true power yet only makes him much more dangerous. It’ll be interesting to see the scale of his power and what repercussions his invasion has on everyone involved.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this issue. It always surprises me to know that this hasn’t been adapted into a movie or a live-action show yet. Many comics are getting this treatment, which only makes me want this even more. I eagerly await the next issue.
