Nintendo Switch 2 Gets First Look And It’s About The Same

We knew something was coming, and now Nintendo has delivered news of the Nintendo Switch 2, which is more of the same. That’s not to say that it is a bad thing, given the success of the original Switch. With the news comes a product trailer and the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience, which will take place in several cities in the United States (and even in Toronto, Canada).

The teaser trailer is simple, leaving little to the imagination as the camera zooms in on various components of the updated Switch. It definitely looks bigger, and the controllers have been redesigned, but little else seems to have been changed. That’s okay, though. As the adage goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. And given how popular and well-received the original Switch was, there’s no need to mess around with a good thing.

The trailer also showed players that they can expect a new Mario Kart (we’re gonna call it Mario Kart 9) with their new Switch, too. That said, someone has to tell us how the Nintendo Switch 2 works, and they’re going to with the Nintendo Switch Experience.

More about the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience

As for feedback on the device, that’s where the “experience” portion of things comes into play. With the announcement of the newly updated Switch, fans can get a chance to experience the console firsthand with the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience.

Registration for the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience takes place on January 17, 2025, at 12 p.m. PT / 2 p.m. CT / 3 p.m. ET. It is free to enter, but you do need a free Nintendo account to sign up. This experience is open to U.S. residents only and will take place in April in New York, NY, Los Angeles, CA, and Dallas, TX. More information about the experience can be found here.

People will be picked at random to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Registrants will be notified of the drawing results afterward, so keep your eyes pointed at your inboxes. You may be one of the lucky people who gets to test out this new tech!

More information about the Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at the Nintendo Direct.
