When it comes to new serialized stories, it isn’t just television you should be looking to, but Serial Box. Earlier this year, the platform dropped the continuation of science fiction favorite Orphan Black, with Orphan Black: The Next Chapter.  Now, the audio and reading experience that is perfect for hungry readers launches its first title in partnership with Marvel Comics- Thor: Metal Gods.

Thor: Metal Gods, the first of several original serialized fiction and audiobook series based on Marvel Comics and continues the centuries-old saga of Thor and Loki as they team up for an adventure of cosmic proportions, confronting the sins of both their pasts. We got the chance to speak with Rachel Pinnelas about Thor: Metal Gods and what the future holds with upcoming titles from Marvel Comics.

Pinnelas explains that all you need to know is that “Thor is a hero with lightning and a hammer,” so whether you’re a long time fan of Thor’s comic books runs, the films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or just looking to expand your reading list, this story is for you. While the story is accessible to all audiences, it does use one of Thor’s most potent relationships, his relationship with his brother Loki as they race across the universe to untangle a dangerous mystery and stop the return of an ancient evil.

Thor: Metal Gods comes from an award-winning writing team, led by screenwriter Aaron Stewart-Ahn (Mandy), and including Brian Keene (The Horror Show with Brian Keene), Jay Edidin (Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-Men), and Yoon Ha Lee (Ninefox Gambit), takes the sibling rivalry to new heights as Thor and Loki. Pinnelas explains how the writers balanced their diverse genre backgrounds in horror and science fiction to craft a wholly original story for the God of Thunder.

Additionally, Pinnelas breaks down the importance of showcasing diverse cast characters for the creative team, and why they pushed past just Norse mythology as they wrote this cosmic adventure. Thor: Metal Gods isn’t just about the Asgardian brothers as the saga is propelled forward are a fierce Korean demi-goddess, Horangi, and Captain Zia, a charismatic, gender-ambiguous space pirate who shares a history with Loki. Fans are in for a wild ride when Thor and Loki find themselves fighting on the same side.

Thor: Metal Gods has currently three episodes out now, with the first two free to listen. Ready to jump in? Head here.
