Hot on the heels of the second season’s success, Netflix announced that Devil May Cry will get a third and final season. Based on the hit video game from Capcom and created by Hideki Kamiya, making the series into a trilogy will allow the storyline to be wrapped up in a nice package, and, according to showrunner Adi Shankar (Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix), this was always the plan.
“For those of you who have been paying attention to the episode names, I have been showing you the structure the entire time,” said Shankar. “This was always Dante’s Divine Comedy with guns and a red coat. Season 1 was Inferno. Season 2 was Purgatorio. Season 3 will be Paradiso. These three seasons make up “The Force Edge Saga.” Since inception, “The Force Edge Saga” was designed as a movie trilogy disguised as a television series.”
The Numbers don’t lie – Devil May Cry deserves its success
The numbers don’t lie. Across two seasons, Devil May Cry has appeared on the Netflix Global Top 10 for four weeks, with Season 1 accumulating 21.7M views in 2025 and Season 2 already accumulating 6.4M views in just two weeks.
In our review of Season 1, Kate Sánchez said: “To put it simply, Devil May Cry is a vibe and a half, and it has me locked in and ready for a second season. While Adi Shankar’s vision may need an editor at times, it’s clear his reverence for the source material, which is just enough to make fun of it in the way that we all make fun of DmC: Devil May Cry.”
Season 2 was a leg up in improvement over Season 1, and it showed based on our critic, LaNeysha Campbell’s write-up of the series: “Devil May Cry Season 2 does not disappoint and delivers a spectacular sequel to last season. The show provides in-depth character development for Dante, Mary, and Vergil, helping set the stage for bigger conflicts to be explored next season.”
What is Devil May Cry about?
In Season 1, sinister forces are at play at the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon hunter for hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.
A war between worlds ignites as Dante must battle the only force that mirrors his own: his estranged twin brother, Vergil. In Season 2, Dante must confront his own devils and his feelings about the family he lost as a child. When Vergil reemerges, will Dante lay to rest old demons or fall victim to them?
