The Duffer Brothers, most known for their work on Netflix’s Stranger Things, have left the Midwest for the Southwest. In their new Netflix Original series, The Boroughs, the duo is heading to New Mexico as executive producers. But for anyone let down by the finale, don’t worry, they aren’t the showrunners.

A new supernatural series, The Boroughs, will be eight episodes long, and it comes from creators and showrunners Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance). But while you may not be super familiar with the creators, you probably know more than a couple of actors on the casting list, with Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, and Alfre Woodard making up three of the primary cast.

“From the beginning, we knew we wanted The Boroughs to feel equal parts scary, mysterious, exciting, and emotional,” Addiss and Matthews told TUDUM, Netflix’s blog, which features interviews and announcements. “The challenge was to create a world that could hold all of these different tones at once. Which is why it was so fun to work with the Duffer Brothers — the masters of balancing heart and horror.”

What is The Boroughs about?

Nursing home supernatural is the best way to describe The Boroughs based on what we know so far.

The official synopsis shared by Netflix is:

In a seemingly perfect retirement community, a grieving newcomer’s monstrous encounter inspires him to join a misfit crew of unlikely heroes who uncover a dark secret that proves their “golden years” are more dangerous and more formidable than anyone expects.
