Whether it’s Cairn or Jusant, climbing games are having their time in the spotlight. Now, French developer Ludogram’s new project and publisher Twin Sails Interactive, Ascenders: Beyond The Peak, is adding to the genre.
But, with its own exploration roguelite spin. With strategy at its heart, players will have to make choices to save climbers, possibly missing the path they need to take. Ascenders: Beyond The Peak is releasing in Early Access on Steam in Q3 2026, and later on consoles.
One part turn-based climbing and expedition management, with rope physics, permanent consequences, and one part horror, Ascenders: Beyond the Peak isn’t just about managing yourself, but others too. With the management elements, every climber lost to the mountain takes resources and morale with them, which makes the climb harder.
What is Ascenders: Beyond the Peak?

The official synopsis from Twin Sails Interactive is:
In Ascenders: Beyond The Peak, the difference between life and death is your ability to read the mountain and choose your next move wisely. As the team leader, players will face moral choices as they climb a mountain cursed with mysterious Lovecraftian threats hidden within the rock — every loss irrevocably reshaping your roster.
Every expedition is a desperate attempt to reach the summit, understand the forces shaping the mountain, and return alive with the knowledge and artifacts you need for your next ascent. At all costs, your mission is to forbid them from falling into the wrong hands. Death after death, players will learn to turn the environment into a weapon, mastering each ascent through hard-earned roguelite progression.
What makes Ascenders: Beyond the Peak different?

Ascenders: Beyond the Peak boasts a number of other features in addition to its rope system. The first is to pick your team. Each climber has a class defined by their tools and experience. From what the developers shared, the Highlander shoves foes off the rock face, a Scout repositions with a grappling hook, and the Sapper reshapes the fight with explosives and firearms.
The next element that the game has are artifacts, which are rewards for successful expeditions that can be used during the ascent, spent to upgrade your camp, or traded to different factions.

Ascenders: Beyond The Peak aims to differentiate itself through its rope system. In the game, your climbing team is physically connected. This is where strategy comes in, with a focus on monitoring your positioning as you progress up the mountain, anchor dangerous climbs, save your team, or, well, let them fall.
Additionally, this is a mountaineering game that doesn’t shy away from the sport’s greatest danger. When an expedition starts to collapse, players may be forced to make irreversible sacrifices and put the good of the team above any one member. The decisions, such as whom you side with, which mountains you summit next, and exercising your right to retreat, among others, will shape a player’s reputation, affecting world state and possible game endings.
What is the release date?
