Like with most live-service games, Wargaming is adding some holiday cheer to World of Tanks this December.  A time of celebration, gifts, and grand rewards, World of Tanks Holiday Ops 2026 will kick off this year with a man whose filmography includes everyone from Sherlock Holmes to Alan Turing and Smaug. Yup, Benedict Cumberbatch is the official Ambassador for the World of Tanks Holiday Ops 2026 event.

Known for his commanding presence (and inability to say penguin), Cumberbatch is aiming to bring a fresh approach to leadership that Wargaming has described as “calm strategy and clever guidance” on the battlefield.

“I’m thrilled to be part of World of Tanks’ Holiday Ops this year,” said Cumberbatch in a release to press. “It’s a game that celebrates strategy, teamwork, and thinking a few steps ahead. I really enjoyed collaborating with the team and bringing a new flavor to that world – along with a bit of festive spirit. Wishing all the players a fantastic holiday season.”

What is new in World of Tanks for Holiday Ops 2026?

The Holiday Ops 2026 event kicks off on December 5, 2025, and will continue into the new year through January 12, 2026. Players can look forward to a winter adventure filled with festive-themed missions, rewards, and even a few holiday surprises.

  • Holiday Garage: With the special holiday garage, Cumberbatch will welcome tankers with special assignments and an atmosphere that players haven’t seen before.
  • Celebrity-Themed Rewards: Players will also be able to earn exclusive celebrity-themed rewards, including Cumberbatch’s in-game appearance as a tank commander, complete with his original voice.

Like other Holiday Ops events, this year will also feature Wargaming’s annual holiday tradition of debuting a Holiday Ops 2025 original short film. You can read the official synopsis below:

“This year’s story follows Sebastian, a shy office worker who can’t quite find the courage to talk to his crush, Sarah. Enter Benedict Cumberbatch as a witty, slightly eccentric therapist who helps him face his fears through clever, unconventional exercises. The result is a warm, funny, and gently surreal story about courage, connection, and a shared love of World of Tanks – a festive reminder that bravery often begins in the most unexpected ways.”

When does Holiday Ops 2026 begin?

The release date for the Holiday Ops 2026 event is December 5, 2025, with an end date set for next year on January 12, 2026.

What is War of Tanks?

This event comes after War of Tanks’ massive update, which switched the game into 2.0, addressing community feedback and enhancing core game systems for today’s players. The title has been live since 2010, and this year’s 15-year anniversary started a whole new chapter for the title and its tankers.

World of Tanks is the first team-based, massively multiplayer online action game dedicated to tank warfare. Immerse yourself in dynamic tank action featuring mid-20th-century combat vehicles from around the world. Your arsenal includes over 800 armored vehicles from 11 nations, carefully detailed with historical accuracy.

War of Tanks is available to play now, for free, on Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, iOS, Android, macOS, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5.
