Chainsaw Man, the hit series created by Tatsuki Fujimoto, makes an exciting return with Chainsaw Man-The Movie: Reze Arc, making its North American premiere. Many fans are eager to watch one of the series’ most action-packed and heart-wrenching storylines, the Bomb Girl Arc, come to life in movie theaters.
The world of Chainsaw Man is full of kinds of devils, chaos, and heartbreak. This movie is sure to bring more of that with the introduction of Reze (Reina Ueda) into the franchise. For fans not familiar with the Reze or the Bomb Girl Arc from the manga, there are a few things people may want to know about Denji’s new acquaintance.
This guide dives into everything Chainsaw Man fans want and need to know about the new bombshell that is Reze, before watching Chainsaw Man-The Movie: Reze Arc.
Who is Reze?
The Chainsaw Man movie adapts the arc, also referred to as the Bomb Girl Arc, that covers chapters 40 to 53 of the manga. During the arc, Denji (Kikunosuke Toya) meets Reze shortly following the aftermath of the Katana Man incident that took place towards the end of the anime’s first season.
Initially, she appears to be a flirty and cheerful teenage girl who manages to charm Denji, and they quickly become friends. As they start to spend more time with one another, he realizes he has feelings for her.
Surprisingly, in turn, Reze seems to develop genuine, romantic feelings for Denji as well. Unfortunately for Denji, her intentions toward him are not entirely pure. In actuality, she is a Bomb Devil hybrid and a Soviet-trained assassin who has a mission to take Denji’s heart. Eventually, her identity as a devil-human hybrid and assassin comes to light, and Denji learns she was sent to steal his heart. After the revelation, Denji and Reze have to fight each other in an explosive battle.
Reze & Denji’s Relationship
The emotional core of this is about Denji and Reze’s relationship. From the start of the series, Denji has craved a life of normalcy. A life full of simple pleasures, like eating good food, going to school, finding a place where he belongs, and falling in love like any other boy his age. Sadly, his tragic childhood never afforded him a chance to have a normal life like the one he always wanted.
Likewise, Reze’s childhood and life were very traumatic, and she never got to experience a normal life either. So when she meets Denji and the two start to develop feelings for each other, the lines between her mission and her feelings for Denji start to blur.
Their relationship and feelings for each other are seemingly genuine. For a short time, it even seems like they both found what they have longed for: a sense of belonging, love, and affection. For someone like Denji, who is constantly being used and manipulated by others, it seemed he had met someone who actually cared about him.
Similarly, Reze really wanted to have a life with him where they could be together and live freely. Although she was initially tasked with stealing Denji’s heart, she ends up figuratively stealing it and falling for him as well, creating a tragic connection between them from the start. Unfortunately, once her identity and mission are revealed, their relationship explodes.
Reze’s Backstory
Not much is known about Reze’s parents or family in the Chainsaw Man series. Before the series’ current events, when she was very young, she was one of many children who were taken by the Soviet Union and placed in a special super soldier program.
The program put her and the other children through harsh training and cruel experiments to make them killing machines with no humanity. At some point, her body was implanted with parts of the Bomb devil to turn her into a devil-human hybrid.
Reze’s Powers & Abilities
Reze, like Denji, is a devil-human hybrid, which means she can access powers similar to the Bomb Devil’s. As a hybrid, her speed and strength exceed those of an average human. His advanced strength and endurance allow him to easily overpower and move faster than his opponents.
She transforms into her Bomb Devil hybrid form by pulling the choker, which is actually a bomb pin, she wears on her neck. Once transformed, her devil powers allow her to create destructive explosions, such as powerful detonations, or use her powers to propel herself through the air. She can even remove parts of her body and remotely detonate them, and then regenerate the body parts again.
At first, it seems she is nearly immortal with no weaknesses. However, her greatest weakness is water. When she is wet, her powers are significantly weakened, which prevents her from igniting any of her bob powers.
Aside from her Bomb Devil hybrid powers, she also possesses extensive skills from her captivity and training to be an assassin. Due to her training, Reze has expert hand-to-hand combat and knife-wielding abilities that make her a challenging opponent for Denji.
The Reze Arc doesn’t just deliver one of the most emotionally charged and complex characters to the series; it also provides one of the most captivating storylines in Chainsaw Man to date. The arc adds depth to Denji as a character and serves as a pivotal moment in the series for both him and the story overall.
Chainsaw-The Movie: Reze Arc premieres in North America on October 24, 2025.
