What is Netflix’s The Elixir?

The Elixir plunges audiences into a world of raw terror after a family dispute transforms into a nightmarish fight for life. The plot centers on Kenes and her family as they visit her father, Sadimin, who owns a renowned herbal medicine business, at their remote village near Yogyakarta to discuss the company’s future. Tensions are already high as Kenes, played by Mikha Tambayong, confronts her best friend, Karina (Eva Celia), over her intention to marry the patriarch.

The confrontation abruptly shifts to panic when Sadimin, after drinking his new experimental potion for eternal youth, suddenly collapses and transforms into a terrifying, undead creature—a zombie. The genre is pure horror and unrelenting suspense, which weaves Indonesian cultural elements, from traditional herbal medicine (jamu) to zombies with distinct local characteristics, into a familiar family drama backdrop.
