Netflix has announced the premiere of its new Chinese-language series, The Resurrected, on October 9, 2025. The revenge thriller is co-directed by Leste Chen of Eternal Summer fame and Hsu Chao-jen, known for Living. The Resurrected features a star-studded cast led by international award-winning actresses Shu Qi and Sinje Lee in their Chinese-language Netflix series debut, with a special appearance by Golden Horse-winning actress Alyssa Chia.

Shu Qi shared in a release in the Netflix newsroom, “I’m really looking forward to it! When I first received the script, I felt it was a bold and groundbreaking story — not just for me as an actress, but also for Chinese-language series in general. I’ve already seen some rough cuts during dubbing, but when I saw the teaser, I still went, ‘Wow!’”

Sinje Lee added, “I’ve never encountered a female-driven story that’s so intense, a little wild, and deeply emotional. It was such a thrill to be a part of it, and of course, I’m even more excited for the day we get to share it with audiences around the world.”

What is The Resurrected about?

The official synopsis from Netflix reads: “Set in the fictional city of Benkha, The Resurrected centers on two mothers united by hatred, seeking revenge for their daughters caught in a fraud and kidnapping case. With help from a mysterious goddess, they revive the deceased ringleader of the fraud scheme to punish him. Yet, despite inflicting relentless pain, their fury remains unquenched. As dark secrets unravel, their alliance is tested, forcing them to confront the limits of justice and their own morality.”

Death row inmate Chang Shih-kai (Fu Meng-Po) is bound to the execution platform amid a tense, heavy atmosphere. His mother, Yueh-sin (Chung Hsin-ling), eerily smiles, while the victims’ families, Wang Hui-chun (Shu Qi) and Chao Ching (Sinje Lee), watch coldly. As the execution concludes swiftly, Wang’s reaction reveals the bitter anger and unresolved pain of a victim’s family. Ironically, death seems less a punishment and more a release for Chang Shih-kai.

Fu Meng-po, who takes on a completely different role from his past performances as a cold-blooded villain, also expressed his enthusiasm: “The storyline is both fantastical and thrilling, and the moral conflicts between the characters are absolutely gripping.”

Through a mysterious resurrection ritual, Wang and Chao manage to bring Chang back to life—but only for seven days. During this limited time, Chang is no longer free and becomes a pawn in their merciless plan, subjected to harsh torment and judgment. As the clock ticks down, what fate awaits Chang in his temporary return?
