Netflix has officially announced that its upcoming Korean film, Good News, will premiere on its global platform on October 17, 2025. The streaming giant revealed the release date alongside a new trailer and teaser poster for the highly anticipated film, which was recently invited to the Special Presentations section at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival.

The film, directed by Byun Sung-hyun and starring Sul Kyung-gu, Hong Kyung, and Ryoo Seung-bum, is a gripping thriller set in 1970 that blends suspense with a sharp, satirical edge. The story poses the question of whether a lie can ultimately lead to the truth, as hinted by the trailer’s line: “sometimes, even the truth lies. And lies also tell the truth.”

The plot of Good News centers on a desperate, high-stakes operation to save a hijacked plane. A shadowy fixer known as “Nobody” is brought in to assist a mission led by elite Air Force lieutenant Seo Go-myung and ordered by Director of Korean intelligence Park Sang-hyeon.

Their objective is to execute a double hijacking from the ground to land the aircraft and prevent a potential diplomatic crisis safely. The film’s narrative explores the clash of egos and strategies as the team races against time to outsmart the hijackers.

The film is directed by Byun Sung-hyun, known for his previous works including Kill Boksoon, Kingmaker, and The Merciless. Kill Boksoon, director Byun’s first collaboration with Netflix, highlighted his ability to capture action and make every line drip with comedy.

About the film, our critic said, Kill Boksoon manages to be filled with fantastically directed violent sequences while also telling a thoughtful story about a mother and daughter.”

Good News marks the second collaboration between director Byun Sung-hyun and Netflix. The film is produced by Star Platinum and will be distributed globally on Netflix. Filming for the movie began on September 7, 2024, and concluded on February 17, 2025.
