“In 15 minutes, Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree gave me just that. Additionally, while the style is gorgeously adorable, this is a roguelite with a challenge, which, while easily understood, takes time to clear. And that is set to make Towa something to write home about.”

What is Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree?

Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree delivers a 2D isometric roguelite experience featuring fast-paced action, gorgeous hand-drawn characters, stunning painterly scenery, and a unique soundtrack.

The game transports players to a colorful world where tranquil splendor masks a lurking threat. The evil Magatsu seeks domination, threatening the peaceful Shinju village. Towa, the village priestess, unites with eight trusted companions to defeat Magatsu and his minions.

Players select two Guardians for each quest. One Guardian wields the sacred sword Tsurugi, while the other carries the magical staff Kagura. Each Guardian offers unique skillsets players can unlock and upgrade within dungeons and through meta-progression in the hub world of Shinju Village.

Beyond Guardian abilities, players find various crafting materials to forge and upgrade their swords, creating unique combat styles and Guardian pairs. As Guardians pursue quests across different timelines, Shinju village evolves over the years. Players develop unique bonds with residents, learning about their customs and stories interwoven into the village’s fabric. Ultimately, players must fight through colorful lands, conquer dungeons, and defeat Magatsu’s minions to restore peace.

Meet the New Guardians: Rekka and Nishiki

In Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree, players must choose two characters for every dungeon run, making strategic pairing of their unique gameplay styles crucial. More Guardian reveals are coming in the weeks ahead!

  • Rekka: This fiery young samurai warrior serves as the founding master of the Eternal Flame Dojo. She pledges herself as Towa’s personal guard. Despite her formidable sword mastery, Rekka is a bit of a klutz in everyday situations. In combat, her fiery skill with swords makes her a well-balanced fighter, excelling with strong combos and effective AOE attacks.
  • Nishiki: A pious and surprisingly ripped koi fish, Nishiki is a highly mobile, combo-heavy warrior. Though he’s a humanoid koi fish, Nishiki ironically cannot swim. He views defeating the evil Magatsu as a form of philanthropy, eagerly joining the fight with his unique style.
