Prepare for an adrenaline rush, K-drama fans. Netflix is gearing up to unleash Trigger, a high-octane action thriller that’s set to plunge South Korea into unprecedented chaos. Starring the dynamic duo of Kim Nam-Gil and Kim Young-Kwang, this series promises a gripping tale unlike anything seen before.

Trigger dives into a shocking scenario where illegal firearms mysteriously flood the normally gun-free South Korea, igniting a wave of unimaginable violence. In this intense narrative, two men find themselves taking up arms, driven by vastly different reasons, as they navigate a country suddenly grappling with widespread tension.

The recently unveiled teaser poster offers a compelling glimpse into the series’ core conflict, showing Lee Do and Moon Baek gazing intently at a box filled with unidentified firearms. Their contrasting expressions hint at the complex motivations behind their choices to wield a gun, which you can see below.

Who is directing and writing Trigger?

The series is both written and directed by Kwon Oh-Seung, who gained significant acclaim at the Fantasia International Film Festival for his film Midnight, which stars Wi Ha-joon (Squid Games, Gyeongsong Creature). His expertise in crafting suspenseful and thought-provoking stories is set to deliver a unique perspective on the genre.

About director Kwon’s Midnight, we said in our review: “A simple film, Midnight is a ride that is worth taking because its faults are overpowered by a completely terrifying performance from Wi Ha-joon as Do Shik. Taking place over the course of one night, Midnight heightens the tension by lulling the viewer and the mother and daughter into safety by showing us a charming Do Shik—and actor Wi Ha-joon rises to the challenge. He is suave and calming, he knows what to say to get people to trust him, and a well-worn suit works wonders.”

In a Netflix newsroom post, Kwon Oh-Seung shared his take on the new K-Drama series. “It is a story about a situation that we all have imagined at least once,” says director Kwon Oh-seung. “This series explores guns from a different perspective, putting them at the center of the story.”
