Get ready, fearnots! The beloved Sanrio characters My Melody and Kuromi are starring in their very own stop-motion animation series, set to premiere exclusively on Netflix on July 24, 2025. The self-titled series, My Melody & Kuromi, celebrates My Melody’s 50th anniversary and Kuromi’s 20th anniversary with an original story that features the duo. The cheerful My Melody and her self-proclaimed rival Kuromi, a seemingly mischievous yet secretly girly character, as they face a major incident threatening their home, Mariland.

In Mariland, My Melody runs a bustling cake shop with her friends Flat and Piano, attracting customers daily. Across the street, Kuromi’s Japanese sweets shop struggles to find customers, fueling her rivalry with My Melody. One day, My Melody discovers a pink heart in the forest, triggering a series of strange events in Mariland that eventually escalate into a crisis threatening everyone. The series will explore if the two can protect their town and friends.

My Melody and Kuromi are expected to continue charming their global fanbase with this new, adorable world and heartwarming story, resonating with viewers who adore these iconic characters. The series will unfold over 12 episodes, each running for 13 minutes, charting the duo’s adventures and personal growth.

LE SSERAFIM Shares My Melody & Kuromi Excitement

The newly released trailer offers a glimpse into My Melody & Kuromi‘s lively expressions as they embark on a journey to save their hometown. New key art accompanying the announcement reveals original characters created specifically for the series, alongside other residents of Mariland.

K-pop powerhouse LE SSERAFIM (which you might know from their collaborations with Blizzard) offers their talents to the series’ theme song, “Kawaii (Prod. Gen Hoshino),” Produced by Gen Hoshino, Sanrio fans got a quick glimpse at the new song in the trailer, shown above.

The members of LE SSERAFIM (Kim Chaewon, Sakura, Huh Yunjin, Kazuha, and Hong Eunchae) shared their excitement via a press release from Netflix while on their first world tour, LE SSERAFIM TOUR ‘EASY CRAZY HOT.” This new song is a part of the quintet’s upcoming 4th Japanese Single DIFFERENT, as well as the theme song of My Melody & Kuromi, marking the first collaboration between LE SSERAFIM and Gen Hoshino.

But what stands out is how much the women of LE SSERAFIM love Sanrio. Group leader Kim Chaewon, often compared to My Melody by fearnots, expressed her excitement, “We really love My Melody and Kuromi, so we were thrilled to be chosen to sing the theme song!”

Sakura, known among fans for her love of Kuromi, also shared, “This song embodies the theme ‘cuteness is strength.’ We hope to show how LE SSERAFIM combines charm with strength, turning each member’s individuality into a source of empowerment.”

Additionally, Huh Yunjin, who co-wrote the English lyrics with Gen Hoshino, said, “I hope everyone will listen to the song and appreciate the lyrics.” Kazuha, who has been wanting to collaborate with Hoshino shared, “I am truly honored to have the song produced by him.”

Finally, Hong Eunchae shared her thoughts on the series ahead of its summer release, “I was really captivated by the adorable world of Mariland! The characters’ expressions were very rich and entertaining to watch.”
