Blizzard Entertainment unveiled the truth from the Lord of Lies, welcoming the return of true evil to the realm of Sanctuary. Diablo IV: Belial’s Return begins April 29.
The Lord of Lies takes center stage in Season 8 as players join new allies, wield sinister Boss Powers, and banish Apparition Monsters while on the quest for truth… whatever that may be.
But what does Belial’s Return entail when Diablo IV is taken over by his deceit and power? Let’s dig into the details.
Confront Belial in Diablo IV
Belial’s motive is unknown, but his return has unleashed mysterious Apparition Monsters into Sanctuary. The residents of the land won’t take Belial’s intrusion lying down. Some have taken it upon themselves to investigate these monsters.
New characters are introduced to pave the way to Belial’s defeat.
Meet Sayeena, a retired Vizjerei mage, and Jarius, who claims to be a knight of the Cathedral of Light. Although initially cautious of one another, they are united in their mission to uncover the source of the monsters plaguing Sanctuary.
To start the Lord of Lies quest, speak to the Stranger in Kyovashad’s city center by the Waypoint. Keep in mind that you must have completed the Diablo IV base game campaign and created a new character in the Seasonal Realm.

Unleash Your Boss Powers to Complete the Quest
Using illusory magic, you can now harness powers once wielded by foes that sent your character to the dreaded “You Have Died” screen. Boss Powers are new abilities derived from the corpses of defeated World, Event, and Lair Bosses, with a total of 24 available in Sanctuary.
Each Boss Power has two effects: a Main Power and a Modifier Power. You can equip one Main Power and up to three Modifier Powers at a time. The Main Boss Power is the focal point of your build, while the Modifiers enhance its effectiveness. Experiment with different combinations to find what best suits your playstyle.
You can acquire Boss Powers after defeating specific bosses for the first time this season, including various World Bosses, new Apparition Incursion event bosses, and Lilith herself, all of whom provide these powerful abilities.
A full list of the Boss Powers you can acquire can be found here.
A New Event Forces You to Face Off Against Apparitions
Belial is making his first move to conquer Sanctuary since Lilith’s tragic end. His Apparition Monsters—illusionary foot soldiers spreading his lies—have emerged across the land.
Join the new Apparition Incursion event to help eliminate them. Any character can participate, and the event occurs in different wilderness locations every few minutes, so check your map for updates.
Upon arrival, target the Apparition Monsters, recognizable by Belial’s sickening green eye mark. Defeating these monsters will summon one of ten Apparition Bosses to challenge you. Vanquishing them grants their unique Boss Power, and you’ll face a stronger version of Belial afterward.
Completing the event is a great way to unlock new Boss Powers and level up your character.
There’s so much more the developers have planned out for Diablo IV: Belial’s Return that you can explore in their full breakdown here. From new technical updates to the powers and foes that you will encounter, this segue into Season 8 is sure to be a doozy. Which tracks, since Belial is one scary enemy to face off against.
