REVIEW: ‘Suicide Squad ISEKAI’ — Episode 10

The battle against the Undead King rages on as Suicide Squad fights against the clock to save their own lives and the lives within the Kingdom. Suicide Squad ISEKAI Episode 10 ties everything together, which has been building up throughout the series, as everything ends. Will the Suicide Squad be able to succeed, or will they die trying?

Suicide Squad ISEKAI Episode 10 wastes no time getting into the action. The Suicide Squad is split up during the fight, and there are some really neat action sequences right from the start, particularly one with a giant skeleton dragon versus Clayface and Rick Flag. Bits of comedy are thrown in during the fight, which fit pretty well with the general vibe of the Suicide Squad and doesn’t feel too out of place.

One of the key new characters who enters the fray is Enchantress. The Undead King had a way of controlling her, but the Suicide Squad figured out how to help her. They rescue a body trapped in the skeleton dragon, and Enchantress merges with the body to become her full self again. This helps the Suicide Squad gain a vital ally and is a blow to the Undead King.

Another character that has been lurking in the background until now is Katana. Katana has seemingly been on the villains’ side but shows up to help the Suicide Squad here. She helps defeat the skeleton and represents another major ally earned for the Suicide Squad. For now, anyway.

Suicide Squad ISEKAI Episode 10

While all that is happening, King Shark is fighting Killer Croc, his evil allies underwater. Peacemaker shows up here, and my first thought is, “How is he fighting underwater?” Then, surprisingly, the show addresses that. King Shark is virtually on his own since his friends can only fight in spurts before needing to surface for air. The series as a whole has done a good job of answering viewer questions in a way that borders on breaking the fourth wall but always feels natural, and this is another example of that.

The action itself is most fascinating when it is underwater, too. There are fewer limits to how characters can move and interact. It is also a great way to develop King Shark’s character. He is seen as a dumb brute only good for fighting, but there is a scene where he acknowledges that he is made better thanks to his new friends. Even though he has his limitations, their help combines with his strength to create an unstoppable team.

The gang getting back together is one of the series’ more whimsical and fun moments. Deadshot acquires magical armor from Cecil, and every member of the Suicide Squad gets a piece. This armor transforms their looks and gives them new abilities, something that feels much less like a comic book story and more like a magical fantasy isekai anime. Each of them gets a fun transition sequence where they power up before heading to find Princess Fione and defeat the Undead King.

A giant undead skeleton army stands in their way, so Suicide Squad ISEKAI Episode 10 allows the squad to flex their new might. Each member gets the time to show their latest moves as hordes of skeletons fall dead before them. The blazing saxophone riffs in the background make the moment feel even more epic as the Suicide Squad becomes more powerful than ever.

Suicide Squad ISEKAI Episode 10

With some help from their new allies, the Suicide Squad heads after the Undead King for what should be the final battle. Even with their new powers, they are still outmatched, so they must resort to trickery to win the war. It is peak Suicide Squad, finding an underhanded way to win instead of fighting outright. Fione and Harley use their similar looks to fool the Undead King and finally get close enough to use the Holy Sword to kill him.

The Holy Sword bit is incredibly generic isekai, but so has much of the Suicide Squad ISEKAI story. The point is for it to be a generic isekai world where the Suicide Squad is out of place. The Kingdom is called Kingdom, after all, so the final trump card should be as generic as that. It works, too, because for the Suicide Squad, this is all new and out of their comfort zone.

The final battle is fun but ends quickly. That is because there is more lurking beneath the surface. With the Undead King defeated and Fione sitting on the throne, a new curveball gets thrown. Katana has been pulling the strings all along but is not who she says she is. The reveal of her real identity throws everything for a loop and sets up a potential second season with a new mission for the Suicide Squad.

Suicide Squad ISEKAI Episode 10 does a great job of excitingly wrapping up the story while also laying the groundwork for a second season. The action is fun, there is a little more character development, and the twist at the end will shock everyone watching.

Suicide Squad ISEKAI Episode 10 is streaming now on Max and Hulu.
