IU and Park Bo-gum are teaming up for the highly anticipated drama series When Life Gives You Tangerines. Due to premiere on Netflix, the series comes from producer Kim Won-seok (Misaeng: Incomplete Life, Signal, My Mister) and screenwriter Lim Sang-chun (Becky’s Back, Fight for My Way, When the Camellia Blooms).
Perhaps the most exciting part of the announcement stems from IU and Kim Won-seok reuniting. The two previously worked on the remarkable K-Drama My Mister, where IU delivered her most notable, heartbreaking performance to date. It might not have been the singer’s first acting role, but it shifted perception of her considerable strengths and potential as a dramatic actress.

When Life Gives You Tangerines chronicles the adventures of Ae-sun, “the remarkable rebel,” and Gwan-sik, whose nickname means “unyielding iron,” in Jeju Island, including Gwan-sik’s long-standing crush on Ae-sun since they were young. The series’ Korean title pays homage to the Jeju dialect, translating to “thank you for your hard work,” lending cultural authenticity to the narrative.
