The fight against Spoil continues in Undead Unluck Episode 8, “Victhor”, as Andy, Fuko, and Shen set out to defeat the villain. They are going to need to be at their very best if they want to save Ken and the other children and help free the town from Spoil’s evil grasp.

The last two episodes have primarily focused on Andy and Fuko as their roles in the battle unfolded. Andy, who rushes head-on into battle, is highlighted for his fighting prowess against the imposing Spoil. Fuko, on the other hand, gets a chance to show her ability to care for others and give them a sense of peace. Shen had mainly been relegated to being a side character, which makes sense since he is not part of the main duo, but in Undead Unluck Episode 8, he is given a chance to shine.

It is Shen who helps turn the tide of battle and more of his motivations and dreams are shown in Undead Unluck Episode 8. He is the one who ends up figuring out Spoil’s weakness, and it was nice to see a character that previously did not seem to matter much rising to play an important role. It is easy to keep side characters as just that, side characters, but giving him a prominent part to play in the battle shows how good Undead Unluck is at making more than just the main characters matter.

Undead Unluck Episode 8 also teases an extra motivation for Shen when he mentions Spoil might be able to help him see someone. It is another small teaser that the series has been so good at, sprinkling bits of information amidst a much bigger story. These moments help the series by always giving it something else to uncover, not letting things slow down for too long.

Undead Unluck Episode 8 - But Why Tho(2)

The battle between our heroes and Spoil is out of this world, literally. Shen sends Spoil to space where Andy is able to survive and take him on. It also reveals a new form for Andy, called Victor. The new form has a fresh new look and is even more powerful, but he also has a completely different personality. While Andy is more aloof and lovable, Victor is downright intimidating.

Victor is way too strong for Shen to beat and Fuko’s Unluck ability does not work on him which makes the battle that much more intense. It is one of those situations where victory seems impossible, but just as it seems there is no hope left the rest of the Union members come to the rescue. It is fascinating that Victor is able to take on so many powerful fighters at once and raises the question of whether or not Andy will be able to channel his power as Victor without taking on the Victor personality.

The fighting in Undead Unluck Episode 8 remains as great as ever. Movement is fluid and the way the characters glide across the screen before unleashing their impressive moves is incredibly exciting. The final sequence between the Union and Victor unveils some fascinating new abilities that are fun to watch on screen and the swelling music sets the stage for an epic showdown in the next episode.

Undead Unluck Episode 8 wraps up one battle only to immediately jump into a new one as the action never stops. Fuko, Shen, and the rest of the Union are going to have their hands full against the imposing Victor and the stage has been set for an amazing life-or-death battle.

Undead Unluck is streaming now on Hulu.
