Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 14 - But Why Tho

It’s been over six months since Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War shook the anime world with the shocking revelation of Ichigo Kurosaki’s true power source. Since then, the anticipation has been mounting as the Quincy invasion inches ever closer. Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 14 brings viewers right back into the mix as the season’s second cour begins. The episode titled “The Last 9 Days”, starts off the summer strong showing how far our heroes have come in their training since the Soul Societies crushing defeat.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 14 plunges viewers into the heart of the conflict as the Wandenreich prepares for their full-scale invasion of the Soul Society. With little to recap, the episode sets the stage for the final battle, instilling a sense of urgency and raising the stakes for our beloved characters. With the Soul Reapers seemingly weakened after centuries of peace, the Quincy forces led by the formidable Yhwach are determined to exact revenge.

While Ichigo’s lineage was the topic of conversation since the end of the first cour, “The Last 9 Days” put its primary on Uryu Ishida. To my surprise, and the surprise of the Stern Ritters in attendance, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 14 opens with Ywach appointing Ishida as his successor. The announcement not only continues to throw Ishida’s sense of self into a frenzy, but it also breeds seeds of discourse within the ranks of the Quincies. The dynamic between Uryu and Yhwach, as well as the skepticism of other Stern Ritters, adds depth to the narrative and paves the way for future conflicts and rivalries that will surely have explosive results.

Visually, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 14 continues to impress. Just like the second cour’s opening is filled with the anime‘s vibrant color palette, combined with striking set pieces, creates a visually stunning experience. Even as the episode flashes back to Tite Kubo’s original designs, nothing is lost as the visuals have grown with the more mature nature of the season. The only real action in “The Last 9 Days” contained such a beautiful yet graphic transition that was so seamless that I was stunned when it happened. The gloves are certainly off for the Thousand-Year Blood War.

“The Last 9 Days” remains largely expositional as viewers are reintroduced to where the characters left off. Unfortunately for the Soul Society and Ichigo and Friends, it doesn’t seem like their training has advanced very far. Even Ichigo who thinks he is ready to go back to the Soul Society is told by Squad 0 captain Ichibe Hyosube tells him that his training is not yet complete. While there may be little to no action to offer viewers in this opening cour, these scenes serve as crucial building blocks of anticipation as hope quickly gives way to despair by the episode’s end.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 14 lays a solid foundation for the second cour of the final arc. With its immersive visuals, engaging exposition, and introduction of significant plot developments, “The Last 9 Days” keeps fans eagerly awaiting the climactic conclusion of Bleach‘s journey. While some may crave more immediate action, the episode’s focus on character dynamics and the looming threat of the Wandenreich sets the stage for an epic showdown. With the timer set, I expect nothing but action in the episodes to come.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 14 is available now on Hulu.

I am just a guy who spends way to much time playing videos games, enjoys popcorn movies more than he should, owns too much nerdy memorabilia and has lots of opinions about all things pop culture. People often underestimate the effects a movie, an actor, or even a video game can have on someone. I wouldn’t be where I am today without pop culture.
