PS5 Console, Launch Games Revealed

In a livestream event on Thursday, Sony finally revealed launch titles for the upcoming PlayStation 5, as well as what the console itself looks like. The PS5 is slated to release Holiday 2020 with both a digital and disc-based version available.

The console and DualSense controller includes 4K Ultra HD blu-ray, an ultra-high-speed SSD, ray tracing, haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, a USB port, motion sensor, built-in microphone, integrated speaker, a headset jack, and 3D audio. This information was previously announced in a video from Mark Cerny in March.

Jim Ryan, President and CEO, stated that all videos in today’s presentation were captured on the PS5.

Horizon: Forbidden West

The highly-anticipated sequel to 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn has finally been released. Entitled Horizon: Forbidden West, the game focuses on the continuation of Aloy’s story and fight to save the world she loves, all while fighting even bigger and badder machines in a future America.

Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V, one of the best-selling pieces of media of all time, will be coming to PS5 in an expanded and enhanced form in 2021. PS5 owners will get GTA Online for free at its launch if they have PS Plus.

Additionally, starting today, PS4 owners will get $1 million in GTA every month until Grand Theft Auto V launches on PlayStation 5.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man, has been announced for Holiday 2020, meaning it may be a full-fledged PS5 launch title.

Gran Turismo 7

Kazunori Yamauchi from Polyphony Digital made an appearance to announce Gran Turismo 7 and its brand new campaign mode.

Demon’s Souls

The rumored remake is real – Demon’s Souls will launch on PS5. The game will include two different graphical modes, one focusing on fidelity and the other on frame rate.

Resident Evil VIII: Village

Resident Evil VIII: Village is real and coming to PlayStation 5 in 2021.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

Insomniac Games returns with its iconic Ratchet and Clank series with Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, a brand new adventure built from the ground up for PlayStation 5. The game revolves around moving through different dimensions, both while platforming and while in combat. Plus, the trailer hints at the introduction of a new female character and a storyline centered on Ratchet and Clank being separated, at least for a little while.

Project Athia

There wasn’t much information available yet for Project Athia. All we know so far is that it’s story-led, action adventure game from Square Enix’s new studio, Luminous Productions, designed exclusively for PS5.

Stray

In Stray, you play as a stray cat that has to solve mysteries to escape a futuristic city and find your way home. The game will be released in 2021.

Returnal

Returnal is a brand new franchise from Worldwide Studios. In Returnal, the main character constantly relives her crash and subsequent death on a strange planet with a catch – each time she relives her death, the planet changes. Your task is to break the cycle as you slowly lose your mind in this strange environment and time loop.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Sackboy returns in his very own 3D platforming game from Sumo Digital. You can play solo or multiplayer with up to four people.

Destruction AllStars

Destruction AllStars is a new game from Lucid with just one goal – destroy everything around you.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a story-driven action-adventure game from Ember Lab. Throughout the game, you find spirit companions that help you enhance your abilities so you can manipulate the environment around you as you explore and fight your way through the world.

Goodbye Volcano High

Goodbye Volcano High is a narrative story-driven game about the end of an era. It’s coming to both PS4 and PS5 in 2021.

Oddworld Soulstorm

Oddworld Soulstorm focuses on the character of Abe and his terrifying struggle in a story-driven adventure game. It will be the first Oddworld game to be released since 2014.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

Shinji Mikami from Tango Gameworks made an appearance to show the first gameplay footage of Ghostwire: Tokyo, stating that the developers really focused on the atmosphere and feeling of mixing real-life Tokyo with the supernatural. The game will come out in 2021.

JETT: The Far Shore

JETT: The Far Shore is an interstellar adventure to help create a future for others. The game will be released this Holiday for both PS4 and PS5.

Godfall

More gameplay for Godfall was shown. The game was originally announced at The Game Awards last year and is slated to release in Holiday 2020.

Solar Ash

 

Solar Ash is a surreal-looking game that will come out in 2021.

Hitman III

 

Agent 47 returns in the last game in the trilogy in Hitman III, which launches in January 2021.

Astro’s Playroom

 

The DualSense controller itself seems to have been turned into a 3D platforming mascot for PlayStation this generation. The game comes pre-loaded on the system and explores four worlds, each based on the PS5 console’s components and the capabilities of the DualSense.

Little Devil Inside

Little Devil Inside, from Neostream, is an action-adventure RPG with survival elements with a focus on the world’s atmosphere.

NBA 2K21

Zion Williamson from the New Orleans Pelicans showed up to reveal the first trailer for NBA 2K21, which will come out Fall 2020.

Bugsnax

 

Bugsnax, from the developers of OctoDad, will launch on PS5 this Holiday season.

Deathloop

 

Deathloop is focused on a time loop and endless assassinations. There are eight targets that need to be killed before midnight, assuming you can outsmart your competition.

Pragmata

Pragmata, developed by Capcom, is in development for PlayStation 5 and will launch in 2022. The trailer seems centered on freedom and escape from Earth as an astronaut.
