It seems like only yesterday where the world saw the likes of Bret “The Hitman” Hart, Andre the Giant, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, and “The Ten Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase grace the wrestling world with memorable matches. They and many other superstars of their time helped shape the foundation of WWE, then known as the WWF, and made people care about pro wrestling. I will always be grateful for the work the put in to the business and making it possible for wrestling to be as popular as it is today. It’s incredible to know that there are people who still care for the glory days of wrestling enough to create comics like WWE: Forever #1.

WWE: Forever #1, which is published by BOOM! Studios, tells four separate stories that feature some of the greatest superstars of all time. Each of these stories features a different creative team. Contributors of the different stories include Brent Schoonover, Michael Kingston, Lan Pitts, Derek Fridolfs, Arune Singh, Michel Mulipola, Carlos Magno, Kendall Goode, Matias Laborde, Doug Garbark, Fred C. Stresing, and Jim Campbell.
Even though there are multiple stories done by various contributors, they all manage to tap into this era of wrestling very well. It gives newer fans of wrestling a glimpse to how wrestling was like during the old days of the WWE and will surely make many older fans feel nostalgic. The creators of the comic found a way to make this comic for everyone, which makes me hope that not just wrestling fans will pick up this issue.
“The King of Bling” will easily be a fan favorite story. Seeing Ted DiBiase and Razor Ramon confront each other in a jewelry shop is the story of story fans would see during this era. The exchange between these two legends was exceptionally well written. It’s hard to see this back and forth play out any differently. Lan Pitts, the author of this story, managed to including Ramon’s catchphrases, including him saying “Chico”. Carlos Magno’s art style brought these characters alive. I felt like I was back on my couch sitting next to my friends watching old wrestling tapes.
In “A Show of Hart”, readers will get a glimpse of just who phenomenal Bret Hart was during his time as a wrestler. It gives a rundown of what his entire career would look like as a wrestler, but in a very unique way. Writer Michael Kingston and Michael Mulipola found a way to perfectly describe why Hart is the best there is, the best there was.
Overall, I had an absolute blast reading this comic. It serves as a reminder to see where wrestling was 30 years ago and how far its come since then. It focused on the legends that made this possible, which is great to see. I look forward to see what other stories this series will tell.
