Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 6, Episode 3 The Tatter

And here I thought Brooklyn Nine-Nine couldn’t get even better. This week’s episode has properly earned a place on the list of my favorite TV episodes of all time. Some of you may think that’s a bit of a strong opinion, but trust me, “The Tatter” is just that special. While watching the episode, one of my friends said that “The show drastically gets better and better. Imagine what this show could’ve been had it gone to NBC to begin with”. While there have been some phenomenal episodes of the show when it was under FOX, I do agree with what they said.

As with every episode, it focuses on different plots. Amy (Melissa Fumero) accompanies Jake (Andy Samberg) and Gina (Chelsea Peretti) to their 20th high school reunion. Jake tries to disprove something that happened while he was a senior and Gina spends the entire time lying about all her accomplishments. Amy nerds out over just being back in high school. Back at the precinct, Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) asks Doyle (Joe Lo Truglio) for help on choosing who she should go out with. Terry (Terry Crews), Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker), and Scully (Joel McKinnon Miller) are all playing a local radio game, which catches Captain Holt’s (Andre Braugher) attention.

I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again, all of the cast members have impeccable comedic timing. The plot at the high school reunion gives Perreti and Fumero a chance to show off just how funny they can be. Samberg’s need to debunk the rumor about him from high school is hilarious. I appreciate that the humor doesn’t seemed force nor does it seem excessive. The end scene between Gina and Jake was very sweet. It shows just how much these two characters care for each other, even after being friends since high school. It teases a major arc for Perreti’s character that will be quite bittersweet to see.

I really enjoyed seeing Boyle help Rosa with her dilemma. The show definitely redeem Boyle over the years. And I’m glad that the show hasn’t completely forgotten about Rosa being bi. It’s a big step towards having representation of all people. Hopefully this plays a bigger role in a future episode this season.

Seeing Terry, Hitchcock, Scully, and Captain Holt play that radio show game was used for more of a light comedic plot. The bond between the members of the 99th precinct continues to grow every episode. Plus, Holt was able to learn a very valuable lesson about work and how you can find ways to enjoy it.

I really enjoyed “The Tatter”. Even thought only two other episodes have been released, this will probably be my favorite episode of the season. Every character got to shine in their own way. The comedy only keeps getting better and better. Episodes like this make me happy that the series was picked up by another network. This change allowed the show to be more open and create memorable moments. I honestly can’t think of where the show can go from here. But I know they’ll top all my expectations.
