Many fans were devastated after FOX canceled Brooklyn Nine-Nine last year. It was completely unexpected, given the show’s popularity. Many other companies like Netflix and Hulu showed interest in picking up the show for another season but the show was ultimately picked up by NBC.  After one day, this hit comedy show had found a new home. Fans rejoiced as they would get to see their favorite characters again.

The season is already off to an incredible start. I was worried about what would happen to the rhythm of the show once NBC picked it up, but I was happy with what I saw. The comedic timing from all the actors is still phenomenal. It’s awesome to see that they can be a bit more risqué with some of the dialogue they can use. They took Jake’s love of Die Hard to a whole new level, which was great to see it played for laughs.

Season six has multiple plots, which all show that this sitcom still has the capacity to tell great stories. The episode picks up right where the finale left off. Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) is about to reveal whether he got the position of Commissioner. Meanwhile, Jake (Andy Samberg) and Amy (Melissa Fumero) make plans to head to Mexico for their honeymoon. However, once they get to the resort, they’re met with a shocking surprise. In addition, back in New York, Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) is trying to get advice from Terry (Terry Crews) about an issue with one of her cases and Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) is trying to get Gina (Chelsea Peretti) to tell him why their parents are getting a divorce.

Jake and Amy’s relationship hasn’t changed. They haven’t fallen victim to the trope of two characters on a sitcom being married and making things weird for everyone watching.

This episode also talked about serious issues, like when Terry was a victim of racism at the hands of his fellow policemen during season 4. It’s great to see sitcoms tackle issues like this since they shine a bigger light on the issue. It didn’t feel forced, which won’t turn off audiences who aren’t fans of shows doing this.

Overall, I’m very excited for the rest of the season. By the end of the opening scene, I was already laughing. This is one of those rare shows that I enjoy every episode I watch. The progression of each season is definitely noticeable.

It already feels like this is going to be the best season yet. However, it’s a bit sad to know that this will be Chelsea Peretti’s final season. She’s been such an integral part of the show and her comedic style will definitely be missed. But I do think the show will still find success once she’s no longer on it.

This is the show’s sixth season and the cast has definitely found ways to still make audiences laugh with every episode. The final scene sets up an interesting conflict for the rest of the season. I’m quite excited to see how it plays out.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine airs on Fox weekly.
