This week, they did it! Kate and LaNeysha finally watched the infamous American Death Note live-action adaptation produced by Netflix. As one of the most prolific horror/thriller anime out there, Death Note has a special place in fans’ hearts. Did it live up to that? Spoiler…no. This episode is a little different in that LaNeysha and Kate try to keep it together while ripping the film a new one. But was it at least better than Dragonball Evolution?

A Death Note live-action isn’t a bad idea. The Japanese live-action films are good and fun, and the series works. But when Light Yagami becomes Light Turner and the psychopath turns into an emo love-sick boyfriend the Netflix Death Note Live-Action misses everything — well except Willem Dafoe as Ryuk.
Death Note is loosely adapted from the Japanese manga of the same name created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. The film is directed by Adam Wingard and written by Charles & Vlas Parlapanides, and Jeremy Slater. The film stars Nat Wolff as Light Turner, LaKeith Stanfield as L, Margaret Qualley as Mia, Shea Whigham as James Turner, Paul Nakauchi as Watari, and Willem Dafoe as Ryuk, and follows the story of an American high school student named Light Turner, who finds a mysterious supernatural notebook known as the “Death Note”, which can kill anyone whose name is written in its pages.
The film was screened at FrightFest in London and was then released on Netflix on August 25, 2017. As of 2021, a sequel was in pre-production, with Greg Russo attached to write the screenplay.
