It’s been five years since the first season, and now, the Netflix drama series The Chestnut Man returns for a long-awaited Season 2. Now titled The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek, the six-episode standalone series follows a string of murders, and the central detectives, Mark Hess and Naia Thulin, are brought back together to solve the mystery behind the deaths that all link themselves to a children’s rhyme.

Based on the novel by Søren Sveistrup, Season 1 was top-tier psychological horror that allowed for a decidedly dark binge-watch. Netflix has gone all in over the years in spotlighting international stories, and the sequel to the 2021 series continues just that. The Danish series leans into the dark premise to elicit some genuine thrills.

The first trailer for the latest Netflix series establishes an eerie, oppressive tone as the two detectives, played by Danica Curcic and Mikkel Boe Følsgaard, look to discover the truth. The true crime elements with genuine scares promiseFilmed 1,a gripping and long-awaited return.

What is The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek about?

A scene from The Chestnut Man Hide and Seek

A 41-year-old woman is reported missing, and when the police unravel her digital footprints, it becomes evident that she has been stalked for months. An unidentified perpetrator has been playing an involuntary game of hide and seek, surveilling her while sending her not only images and videos but also a seemingly innocent nursery rhyme-style counting song.

When the woman is later found murdered, it becomes evident that this case can be linked to a similar, unsolved murder case of a 17-year-old high school student who was found murdered two years ago. But what is the connection between the two victims? And when will the perpetrator begin to “play” hide and seek again?
