Gaming’s most iconic woman is coming to the small screen in live-action for the first time. With three live-action films and an animated series, Lara Croft has had her story told a number of ways, not to mention 23 video games when you count them all up. Now, Prime Video has shared a first look at Sophie Turner in Tomb Raider, the streamer’s upcoming series from showrunner Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

In a comment released via press release, Sophie Turner shared her love of Lara, “I’ve been a long-time fan of Tomb Raider and the character of Lara. She has always felt for me, very emboldened in a male-dominated world. She’s a fierce female role model!”

Today marks the start of production for the upcoming series, but all we know just yet is that the series is based on the iconic video game franchise, which follows the adventures of world-famous archaeologist and adventurer Lara. And well, a cast list.

The news of production beginning comes just a month after Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics announced two new video games will be released in 2026. Tomb Raider: Catalyst, which continues the story set up in their reboot series, and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which is essentially a remake, though both studios have requested it not be branded as such.

Sophie Turner’s Lara pays homage to the video game character’s original outfit and even brings out her signature sunglasses. While Crystal Dynamics’ reboot series was wonderfully portrayed by Alicia Vikander, this new version is more in line with what we have seen in the first trailers for the new Amazon Games-published titles.

What to expect from Prime Video’s live-action Tomb Raider?

The series is based on the iconic video game franchise, which follows the adventures of world-famous archaeologist and adventurer Lara. It is led by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), serving as creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge as co-showrunner and executive producer; they are joined by Jonathan Van Tulleken, who will serve as director and executive producer.

“Tomb Raider boasts a plethora of iconic characters. I am thrilled to have been able to bring some personal and fan favourites to the screen while also introducing a few new rascals of our own to the mix. This cast is beyond my wildest dreams!” Phoebe Waller-Bridge shared via the same press release.
