For those of you who have been eagerly awaiting to see what Larian Studios, the team that brought you the award-winning and epic Baldur’s Gate 3, has up their sleeve next, wait no further. Revealed during The Game Awards 2025 with an incredibly awkward live performance before seguing into a bloody horror fest of a trailer, Larian Studios has announced their most ambitious title yet – Divinity.

Concerned about whether or not you have to play the previous games, Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2, don’t worry too much. Divinity is a brand new game that doesn’t require experience with previous Larian titles. However, those who’ve played Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2 will be able to enjoy greater understanding and continuity.

Swen Vincke, founder and game director of Larian Studios, said, “Despite our long history with the series,
this is our first game entitled ‘Divinity.’ We’re ready to bring everything we’ve done previously into one
place.

This marks the beginning of something with more breadth, depth, and intimacy than anything we’ve
created before. We’ve been building toward this moment ever since we took our fate into our own hands.
This is the Divinity we’ve always wanted to make, and you’re going to have loads of fun with it.”

What is in the Divinity trailer?

The Divinity trailer that debuted during The Game Awards quickly makes clear that the world of the game is bloody, gruesome, and unequivocally relentless. A pagan society quickly emerges in Rivellon, where inhuman sacrifices are made to gods in the hope of something unnamed. However, what they unleash after the sacrifice is something terrible and wholly unexpected.

Those who have been wondering what the tree is also receive some answers in the trailer, where what once used to be an altar for sacrifice and promise evolves into something more…well…disturbing.

It is here that the tagline comes into play – “The gods are silent. Rivellon bleeds. New powers stir.” What this all means in the grand scheme of the game remains to be seen. Based on the little preview we got during The Game Awards, the new powers have other plans, and it doesn’t look like the plans are focusing on sunshine and rainbows. Nope, blood and carnage seem to be promised.

Then again, what can you expect from the team that dared to explore the darkest parts of the soul in Baldur’s Gate 3, am I right? Never change, Larian Studios. Never change.
