In To Your Eternity Season 3 Episode 5, “Unheard Words,” Fushi (Reiji Kawashima, Mashle: Magic and Muscles) and his friends begin to adapt to life in the modern world. School and work await them as they face the myriad of developments that have transpired since their old lives. Meanwhile, Bon (Takehito Koyasu, Sk8 the Infinity) and Fushi investigate Izumi to learn how the dead woman is also alive.
This episode picks up right after the previous entry, as Fushi and Bon learn what they can from Izumi’s ghost. The confirmation that Mizuha did kill her mother is troubling, though Izumi seems to take the fact with surprising calmness.
She also suspects the Nokkers are behind her body’s reanimation, although Fushi insists that none of them could’ve survived at this point. Whatever the case may be, Fuhi decides to keep a close eye on Mizuha (Tomori Kusunoki, Chained Soldier) to make sure she isn’t in danger.
Suspicion arises that the Nokkers are behind Izumi’s reanimation.

Despite the growing certainty that the threat is the Nokkers, a pervasive uneasiness persists throughout this episode. As questions continue to get asked, clear answers are not forthcoming, even as hints of a growing problem abound.
Moments like seeing a student running awkwardly at school, to fall and scrape their knee, only to have it instantly heal, imply that whatever insidious thing is going on may already be spreading. And the mystery lies thickest with Mizuha herself, as To Your Eternity Season 3 Episode 5 does a great job making her personal situation difficult to read.
The brilliance that shines most with the series’ handling of the new character lies in her social situation. As Fushi, Tonari (Eri Inagawa, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven), and the others start attending classes, we see an ever-growing level of vitriol aimed at Mizuha.
Mizuha exudes an uncomfortable energy in To Your Eternity Season 3 Episode 5.

As Mizuha’s classmates come to talk about her behind her back, it engenders a protectiveness for the character. Many have been crap talked about, and generally, most rumors of the like range from exaggerated to straight-up lies. This creates a tendency to side with Mizuha.
The other element that makes Mizuha seem like the victim of foul play in much of To Your Eternity Season 3 Episode 5 stems from Fushi’s instant status at school. Despite understanding nothing about what’s going on, Fushi is an immediate hit with everyone around him, particularly the girls. Yet, despite how much attention everyone showers on him, his only concern is Mizuha. A classic recipe to breed resentment and backstabbing.
However, the Mizuha does genuinely feel off. There is an uncomfortable energy around her in key scenes. In one instance, when she inquires about Fushi’s interest in love, there is a dissociation between her questions and body language. It’s almost as if she isn’t fully in the conversation. And there is the whole element of her knifing her mom, although that could also be the influence of whatever is controlling her mom’s body.
To Your Eternity Season 3 Episode 5 builds its plot and characters well.

While To Your Eternity Season 3 Episode 5 investigates its central problem, it does take a bit of time for some levity. There is a smattering of moments that bring a bit of humor to the cast’s attempts to acclimate to the modern world. Moments like Fushi’s wonderment over a mechanical pencil bring some fun, though much like the jokes made during the first arrival in modern times, these moments don’t overstay their welcome.
To Your Eternity Season 3 Episode 5 builds its plot and characters well, creating uncertainty and mystery. These elements create a strong draw as they continue to hint at the pieces of the puzzle. It only remains to be seen if Fushi and company will figure out what’s happening in time.
