Stardock Entertainment has officially announced Expansion Pass 2 for its massive space 4X strategy game, Galactic Civilizations IV. The new era of content kicks off on December 4, 2025, with the launch of “Tales of the Terran Alliance,” a new DLC pack focused entirely on the defining moments of humanity’s 23rd-century rise to galactic power.

This first content drop will place players squarely in the midst of the political drama, technological breakthroughs, and military conflicts that shaped the Terran Alliance, including the infamous Xendar War.

What to expect from Tales of the Terran Alliance?

Galactic Civilizations IV - Tales of Terran Alliance DLC

“Tales of the Terran Alliance” is designed to give fans the deeper look into humanity’s history they’ve been requesting. It goes beyond simple gameplay mechanics, offering a rich narrative experience that explores the complex origins, politics, and interstellar ambitions of Earth’s transformation from a single-world civilization into a formidable force among the stars.

Stardock CEO Brad Wardell emphasized that this expansion is a “love letter” to the game’s fans. A key part of the new content is allowing players to experience the conflicts firsthand, particularly by playing as the civilization that helped shape humanity’s first interstellar war.

This expansion adds more to the game’s lore while introducing new tech trees and playable factions that contribute to evolving the gameplay. Here are the key features players can expect in the new DLC:

  • Play as the Xendar: Experience the civilization that shaped humanity’s first interstellar war.
New Human Technology Tree: A unique tech progression designed specifically for the Terran Alliance.
Expanded Human Story Events: Encounter new narrative events that explore the origins, politics, and ambitions of humanity’s interstellar expansion.
  • New Planetary Improvements, Weapons, and Defenses: Build and equip your worlds and fleets with Human-focused advancements.
  • Additional Ship Components: Enhance your ships with new modules tailored to Human strategies.

Galactic Civilizations IV Expansion Roadmap

While the focus right now is on the December launch of “Tales of the Terran Alliance,” Stardock also laid out an ambitious roadmap for the rest of Expansion Pass 2, promising five substantial content drops running from late 2025 all the way into 2027.

Each of these packs is designed to introduce significant new content and mechanics, providing veteran players and newcomers alike with years of fresh strategic depth.

Each subsequent pack will continue to develop the game’s deep strategic mechanics while introducing new lore, civilizations, and unique gameplay. Here’s the full Expansion Pass 2 lineup as shared by Stardock:

  • Tales of the Terran Alliance (December 2025): The rise of the Terran Alliance and humanity’s defining interstellar era.
  • Federations & Empires (2026): Focuses on government formation, elections, and agents for political and social control.
  • Ascension (2026): Introduces mechanics for uplifting minor civilizations, genetic modification of species, and building breeding programs.
  • Hegemon (2027): Centers on client states, the United Planets, and several new major civilizations that are uplifted from their minor status.
  • Underworld (2027): Navigate the shadowy realm of criminal syndicates and black markets for deep space intrigue.

What is the release date for the first DLC?

“Tales of the Terran Alliance” will be available for purchase individually for $14.99 or as part of Expansion Pass 2, which includes all five packs at a discounted price. The pass will launch on December 4, 2025, alongside the DLC.
