MULTIPLAYER REVIEW: ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’ Is A Sensational Hit That Refreshes The Franchise

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is Activision’s most ambitious game to date, with the Treyarch team holding nothing back in creating a truly special experience. The Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer builds on past games, delivering high-octane fun for hours on end.

Multiplayer in Black Ops 6 was a much-needed improvement, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer builds on the foundation to create an even better experience for all sorts of players. The most shining example is omnimovement, a feature added in Black Ops 6, which has been refined to make movement feel incredibly fluid and allow for a quicker jump on your enemies. The wall kick mechanic creates more opportunities for verticality without going too overboard.

It was really easy to get the hang of sliding and diving while trying to get a good angle on the opposing team. This is especially useful in modes like Search and Destroy, where players have only one life; therefore, being able to get out of a sticky situation quickly is vital. It also makes the classic modes, such as Team Deathmatch, more chaotic without going completely off the rails.

Gunplay in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer is as good as it has ever been.

Gameplay from Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer

There are 16 maps available at launch for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer, and they all focus on a three-lane approach that funnels players into certain areas of attack. Don’t worry, there are always ways to get around the typical lane traps and hit your enemies from where they least expect it. There are secret routes to be uncovered, allowing players to set up the perfect ambush. Toshin, Scar, and Colossus are three maps that stood out as being exceptional, but they are all great to play on. Some maps are not always ideal for every game mode, such as playing Kill Confirmed on the larger maps, but for the most part, the balance is quite good.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer also introduces Skirmish mode, a 20v20 squad-based mode where players complete objectives to earn points. Combat is exhilarating, and the constantly changing objectives keep players on their toes. This mode is ideal for players who prefer a more extended challenge over the chaotic arcade feel of the standard multiplayer modes. It is essential to coordinate with your team, so solo players might not have the same experience as those in a squad.

Gunplay in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer is as good as it has ever been. There will surely be plenty of discussion over meta builds, but the balancing from the start is quite good. I felt encouraged to try out all different sorts of weapons, never really landing on one that was overpowered compared to the rest. There is also an extensive selection to choose from, allowing players to experiment with different types of loadouts.

The new copy build button is going to be a game-changer for how players create and share their builds.

Gameplay from Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer

There are plenty of tweaks and new features that make the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer better than its predecessor, but none will have the same impact as the new copy build button. Every weapon build has a unique build code that can be shared, allowing players to import builds at will. Got killed by someone in an online match and want to use their setup? A handy button is displayed in the kill feed, allowing players to copy the gun that killed them and create a loadout for it. Attachments that haven’t been unlocked yet will be displayed, so players know what they need to do to complete the build.

This feature is going to be a game-changer for how players create and share their builds. It dramatically reduces the time spent adding attachments and will make it easier to experiment with different builds. I was using this constantly and will continue to do so as I see what creative setups players can come up with, because, obviously, the only reason I died was that they had a better gun build than I did.

Another notable feature in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer is the Overclocking ability. Overclocking different utilities and scorestreaks can change their behavior. It can extend the duration of a missile barrage or increase the range of a specific ability. There are numerous Overclocks that can be unlocked, which significantly alter how players configure their builds, adding yet another layer to how players approach combat.

Every map is unique and visually stunning in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer.

Visually, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer is absolutely stunning. Every map is unique, and the backdrops are memorable. Each new map is vibrant, and the remastered maps returning from old games look better than ever. These are some of the best maps the Call of Duty franchise has ever created, and the visual quality makes the gameplay experience even more enjoyable. Performance is also excellent, showing that there was no need to compromise between graphics and visual fidelity.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer introduces multiple new ways to play, refreshing the franchise in a sensational way that is sure to be an absolute hit. There is so much to uncover, and this is one that will keep players coming back for more long after it launches.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 releases November 14th on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
