The announcement confirmed that The Witcher Season 4 is filming back-to-back with a fifth and final season, bringing the series’ adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s epic fantasy novels to a planned conclusion. In an interivew published on TUDUM, Netflix’s blog which highlights its films and television series, as well as other projects, the showrunner and creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said, “It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia.”
“We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.”
The series is produced for Netflix with Lauren Schmidt Hissrich serving as creator and showrunner.
What is The Witcher Season 4 about?
The upcoming fourth and fifth seasons will cover the narrative of Sapkowski’s three remaining books: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake. The Witcher Season 4 is the first part of a two-season arc aimed at bringing the central family back together.
Set after the catastrophic Continent-altering events of Season 3, which saw the main protagonists separated by a brutal, escalating war, Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Ciri find their individual paths diverging as they confront numerous enemies. The core concept of Season 4 centers on the trio’s journey to survive and reunite. This endeavor forces them to encounter and accept new, unexpected allies, or “found families,” that might hold the key to their final reunion.
In a seperate TUDUM interview, the showrunner also teased that happiness is probably not in the future. “One of the things we always say is that it wouldn’t be The Witcher if everything ended happily,” Hissrich tells Tudum. “This is the beginning of a two-season journey for our family to finally reunite and be together — hopefully forever,” Lauren Schmidt Hissrich teased audiences.
