Netflix announced that its new dark mystery romance series, Had I Not Seen The Sun, will debut in two parts, with the first premiering on November 13, 2025, and the second on December 11, 2025. The series comes from the award-winning creators behind the hit series Someday or One Day, and is directed by Chiang Chi-Cheng and Golden Bell winner Chien Chi-Feng, and is written by Chien Chi-feng and Lin Hsin-huei.

“Had I Not Seen The Sun is a story built around the theme of “irreversibility.” Growing up, we were taught that wounds heal with time. Yet as we get older, we realize that many wounds are irreversible and cannot be healed. Through the series, we hope to encourage everyone to cherish the people and things around them, and to embrace every life that has been hurt,” explained director-writer Chien in a quote shared by the Netflix newsroom.

But it’s not just the talent behind the camera that is showstopping. The new Netflix dark romance features a powerhouse cast led by Tseng Jing-hua and Moon Lee. Its goal is to blend high-school trauma, forbidden love, and chilling revenge into a story where reality and dreams collide. Maybe The Glory, but with more good feelings instead of just pain? We’ll just have to wait to see.

What is Had I Not Seen The Sun About?

The series is a compelling story of tragic romance and irreversible human darkness, following 25-year-old Li Jen-yao (Tseng Jing-hua), who shocks the public by turning himself in for a series of cold-blooded murders. Years earlier, he had terrorized his high school classmates, earning the nickname the “Rainstorm Killer” because he always struck on rainy days.

While Jen-yao confessed to the series of deaths, he has remained silent about his motives. The story anchors its suspense in the stark contrast between the seemingly innocent boy of the past and the ruthless killer of the present.

The killer, Jen-yao, refuses all visitors behind bars, except aspiring documentarian Chou Pin-yu (Chiang Chi). As their meetings progress, Pin-yu begins to have unsettling dreams of a mysterious schoolgirl (Moon Lee) and intimate, ambiguous encounters with the killer himself.

These visions blur the lines between reality and illusion, pulling Pin-yu deeper into a hidden past between Jen-yao and Hsiao-tung as the truth unravels, revealing a complex triangle of love, hatred, guilt, and redemption.

Tseng, who plays the Rainstorm Killer, shared, “The series transitions from a campus youth romance into dark suspense. It conveys the profound experiences of emotional separation, as well as healing and forgiveness. These characters will take the audience through emotional highs and lows, embodying both light and darkness.”

The teaser opens with a fragile scene: Chiang Hsiao-tung (Moon Lee) dancing ballet on a rooftop as Jen-yao watches. He tells her, “Moths are nocturnal. They mistake the light for the moon, circling endlessly, never realizing they are trapped in place,” words that mirror his own fate as a “moth chasing the sun.”

Director Chiang explained the significance, stating, “Moths and butterflies are attracted to light—yet one only appears at night, while the other dances in the day. In this story, they symbolize two people from different worlds, destined never to fly under the same sky.”
