After delays that ultimately resulted in a year-long hiatus, Football Manager 26 has been pushing hard to highlight all the ways the game, developed by Sports Interactive, is looking to come back swinging. With new additions to authenticity and a promise of more fluid and immersive gameplay, each developer update has sought to showcase all the updates that affect how Football Manager plays. Now, it’s time for the tournaments you play.
EA Sports’ decision to change the name of its flagship soccer game from FIFA to FC was a significant move. For sports game players and fans alike, the dissolution of the partnership between the two wasn’t entirely unexpected, even if FIFA’s claims to develop their own video game were. But following the lackluster response to FIFA’s mascot game, Football Manager has announced that it’s the new official FIFA partner, and it’s exciting to see Sports Interactive’s tentpole game make a big splash after a time away.
Now, though, this partnership announcement is showcasing just how much larger the title just might be when it launches in November. As EA Sports FC’s manager mode has become more robust and closer to the true sim that Football Manager is, the two games have begun to share an even larger overlapping audience. With the most recent FC title boasting the largest roster in the title’s history, this only makes sense.
What does the FIFA and Football Manager partnership mean for players?
Sports Interactive announced that its multi-year partnership with football’s international governing body is centered on authenticity, particularly as the FIFA World Cup approaches. This partnership means that Football Manager will be able to have the officially branded FIFA competitions in-game, beginning with Football Manager 26 , which will include the World Cup and the Women’s World Cup.
Some of the details in the Sports Interactive press release look to directly address its community’s concerns and ultimately answer the question: What does this mean for its players? And the answer is, we don’t know right now, at least not fully.
What we do know is that FM26 is promising that the game’s version of the FIFA World Cup 26 (which is the 23rd largest in tournament history) will include all 48 teams alongside official broadcast graphics and tournament branding.
What is FM26 Touch?
That said, this announcement does come on the heels of another big reveal, FM26 Touch. But what is it? The simple answer is a “revamped international Management module.”
The larger answer is that it’s a mobile port of the iconic management franchise exclusive to Apple Arcade and Apple devices like Mac, iPad, and Apple TV. The goal of Football Manager 26 Touch is to combine the game’s modern UI and immersive experience with mobile titles.
So, what else is new in FM26?
One of the most significant announcements that Sports Interactive has shared since gearing up for the return of the fan favorite is the addition of women’s soccer to the game. As women’s soccer continues to grow at a rapid rate internationally, FM26 aims to bring that excitement to players when it launches this November.
Football Manager is available for Pre-Order now on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 (with the Touch version coming to Apple Arcade) and is set to release on November 4, 205.
