Wargaming, the studio behind the renowned World of Tanks franchise, announced a new standalone entry to the series with World of Tanks HEAT. The free-to-play tactical vehicle shooter puts players in control of hero-enhanced tanks in fast-paced 10v10 battles, all set in an alternate post-WWII era.

“World of Tanks: HEAT is our bold vision for the franchise, delivering an entirely new tank experience with a fresh setting, new gameplay mechanics, faster pace, and cutting-edge tech,” said Victor Kislyi, CEO of Wargaming, in a release to press. “Inheriting the renowned World of Tanks DNA, the game lets players enjoy tank warfare like never before, battling in ways we once only could imagine.”

The game introduces new mechanics and faster, more explosive gameplay to the classic franchise. This is also planned to be Wargaming’s first-ever simultaneous full cross-platform release with cross-progression. During a hands-off preview of the Gamescom reveal, it was clear that Wargaming was taking everything they had learned throughout their time with World of Tanks to make HEAT something players would immediately jump into.

What is new with World of Tanks HEAT?

In World of Tanks HEAT, players command a roster of experimental vehicles, each with unique abilities and deep customization. You can outfit your tanks with advanced weapon systems, armor, and visual upgrades, allowing you to tailor each vehicle to your playstyle. As an elite Agent, you shape these war machines to dominate the battlefield with battlefield-altering powers.

Product Director Artyom Yantsevich added in the same release, “Today’s announcement is an important milestone for our team, reflecting all the hard work and creativity we’ve invested in the project. We are looking forward to working closely with players to shape HEAT’s future, and we’re excited to present the game for the first time at gamescom.”
