Nightdive Studios, a subsidiary of Atari and a master at modernizing classic titles, invites players into the terrifying depths of the acclaimed and influential System Shock 2. Rebuilt for modern platforms, System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is now available on Windows PC, with console versions arriving soon.

One of the key aspects of this release is that the developers have gone to great lengths to ensure that players understand this isn’t just a simple port, but a love letter to a game that revolutionized the industry.

“System Shock 2 is the game that started it all for Nightdive Studios — it was the catalyst for everything we’ve built since,” said Nightdive Studios head, Stephen Kick, in a release to media. “After years of development, finally launching System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is a dream realized. This isn’t just a remaster; it’s a love letter to one of the most important immersive sims ever made, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with a new generation of players, not just on PC but also on consoles.”

What is System Shock 2?

Dive into the nightmare aboard the starship Von Braun, 42 years after the original System Shock. Players awaken from cryo-sleep as a soldier, cybernetic implants grafted to their flesh. They must unravel the horrifying mystery of the derelict vessel, hone upgradable skills, and wield powerful weapons and psionic abilities to survive SHODAN’s monstrous creations and her narcissistic god complex.

The original game, released in 1999, fundamentally changed storytelling, atmosphere, and gameplay in the medium. It inspired countless titles and reshaped how players perceived first-person narratives. Nightdive Studios has meticulously rebuilt this classic in their proprietary KEX Engine, delivering the definitive experience. Every element, from visuals to performance, has seen refinement, ensuring both new fans and veterans enjoy the absolute best version of the game.

The Game’s Key Features:
