Broken Bird Games and SelectaPlay have officially announced that their upcoming first-person psychological horror title, Luto, will launch on July 22, 2025, during this year’s Summer Game Fest. Players can experience a chilling exploration of grief, isolation, and a fracturing sense of reality on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

For those who prefer a tangible piece of their nightmares, a Special Physical Edition will also be available for PlayStation 5. This exclusive version comes packed with a sleeved case, unique stickers, and a lore comic, promising to deepen the unsettling narrative of Luto’s haunting world.

What is Broken Bird Games’ Luto about?

Luto puts players in the shoes of an individual inexplicably confined to their own home. What starts as a familiar setting soon devolves into a terrifying, uncanny space where every shadow seems to hold a new dread. The core of the experience lies in the protagonist’s inability to escape, not just from the physical confines of their dwelling but from a deeper, unseen force.

This narrative-driven horror experience is built on observation and memory rather than combat. There are no weapons, no fights, and no easy solutions. Instead, players must piece together meaning from fragmented memories and surreal environments, pushing through a world where absence is a constant companion and the search for an exit becomes a journey through profound fear and uncertainty. As the developers ominously put it, “The worst part about Hell is not the flames, it’s the hopelessness…”

These Luto Key Features are here to work through grief:

  • Luto aims to tap into the raw pain of losing a loved one, confronting the anxieties and depression that can fester in the aftermath.
  • Players can expect to navigate a mysterious and ever-shifting environment, rife with hidden truths and challenges that masterfully blur the lines between what’s real and what’s not.
  • The game promises a uniquely immersive horror experience, where meticulously crafted sound design, oppressive atmosphere, and unsettling spatial dynamics will fuel a persistent dread.
  • Players should brace themselves for environments designed to trigger real-world fears, promising a deeply personal and unsettling journey through their anxieties.
  • Unravel the game’s story at your own pace, slowly piecing together the fragmented memories and surreal surroundings to understand the horrors unfolding around you.
