Clockwork Revolution Trailer Blends New & Old With Steampunk Aesthetic

During the Xbox Games Showcase, Xbox Game Studios introduced gamers to the world of Clockwork Revolution with its gameplay trailer. Over its lengthy five minutes, we get glimpses of the game’s world, customization options for your build of the main character, Morgan Vanette, and an in-depth look at how the gameplay looks. While no game release date has been formally set, we’re inching closer to a formal release.

In the trailer, the steampunk aesthetic shines. The clean exterior and brassy nature of the new tech clash with the grime and grittiness of Avalon, showcasing the disparity between classes. The development team, inXile Entertainment, has done a great job with the visuals to relay the story before the dialogue begins. But what is the story about?

The story of Clockwork Revolution

Welcome to the Tangle, the slums of Avalon and home to you, Morgan Vanette, and your gang, the Rotten Row Hooligans. After discovering that the ruthless Lady Ironwood has altered history—using time travel to enrich herself while keeping Avalon’s people poor and powerless—you’re thrust into an adventure across time to turn back the clock and right Ironwood’s wrongs—however you see fit.

Clockwork Revolution is a time-bending steampunk first-person RPG. After stumbling across an incredible invention that allows you to travel into the past, you discover the city you call home—the vibrant steam-powered metropolis of Avalon—has been carefully crafted through the alteration of historical events.

By traveling back to key moments, your interactions and choices will have a butterfly effect on the deep, narrative-driven world and characters of Avalon, causing them to change and react in unprecedented ways. The gameplay trailer shows how this unfolds as the footage reverts back and forth in time, particularly when engaging in conflicts in-game.

The trailer shows off the characters (and the performances from the voice actors) in high form. Each character’s eccentric nature is highlighted and fleshed out, giving us an inside view of Morgan’s team of ruffians long before we even play.

The new Clockwork Revolution trailer is exciting and beautiful, providing a longer introduction to this volatile steampunk world. Sure, comparisons will be made to games past that tapped into that steampunk sensibility, but it looks like this will be more than that. And frankly, I’m already in.

You can wishlist Clockwork Revolution on Xbox and Steam now.
