Chieftain Artworks, a mysterious solo developer and member of the SCP community, in partnership with Goonswarm Games, announces SCP Control Error, a short, first-person psychological horror game set inside a restricted underground facility. The game’s Steam page is now live and available for wishlisting.

What is SCP Control Error about?

In SCP Control Error, you are Barry Gittings – a man who volunteered for a classified experiment inside the Vortex Complex, a remote underground facility established during the Cold War.

  • You don’t know what’s behind the next door.
  • You don’t know who’s watching.
  • You only know the doors opened, the voice welcomed you, and the test began.

Explore sealed research chambers. Solve strange cognitive trials. Read internal reports and documents left behind by those who came before – or maybe didn’t leave at all. No jump scares. No gunfights. Just you, the test, and something you can’t quite see.

This isn’t a branching narrative. It’s a live experiment. And it keeps evolving based on what players choose, beyond the screen.

Players decide. Not developers.

Key features players should expect:
  • A short, narrative-driven psychological horror game (30-45 min)
  • Set in a Cold War-era underground research facility
  • Solve immersive environmental puzzles and cognitive experiments
  • Story told through reports, surveillance, and what others left behind
  • Community-influenced narrative: The direction of the story is shaped by real player decisions

While no formal release date has been announced, the Steam page does say it’s coming soon. In the meantime, you can head on over to the Steam page and wishlist the item. After that, mentally prepare yourself to become a part of the big experiment that is this game.

About the people behind the game

Goonswarm Games is an independent studio driven by a passion for storytelling and gameplay depth. They make crazy ideas work. Whether they’re working on their own projects or helping indie developers bring their visions to life, they focus on action, creativity, and getting things done.

Speaking of indie developers, not much is known about Chieftain Artworks, the developer behind this psychological short horror game. All anyone knows is that they are a part of the SCP Community and have invested their all into making this game.
