REVIEW: ‘Solo Leveling’ Season 2 Episode 11 — “It’s Going to Get Even More Intense”

The battle for Jeju Island is underway, and Sung Jin-woo (Taito Ban) is waiting for his time to shine. Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 11, “It’s Going to Get Even More Intense,” brings together the best hunters in the world for their most formidable challenge yet.

Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 11 wastes no time getting into the action. The intense brutality of the deaths in the opening seconds makes it clear that this battle will not be easy. It also shows how badly they are going to need Jin-woo when he eventually decides to join the fray.

The battle against the ants provides some of the best animation in the series. Seeing the top-ranked Hunters unleash their full power is made better by the fluid visual presentation. But the action in Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 11 is about more than just the fighting.

The S-rank Hunters finally shine in Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 11.

What really stands out is watching the S-rank Hunters work together. They are all typically loners, not unlike Jin-woo, who prefer to fight on their own instead of as a team. It would have made sense for them to struggle together, but instead, they seem like a well-oiled machine against the ants. Egos are checked at the door since the Hunters recognize the challenge of the fight.

Jin-woo is great, but it is nice to see other Hunters in action. These other fighters have reputations that deserve some screen time. Cha Hae-In is one who stands out the most, given how often she pops up as a side character. Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 11 lets us see why she is so revered, and more moments like that would really help the series get to an even higher level.

Despite not being the main focus, Jin-woo is still lurking in the background. Literally. He has the ability to travel by shadows and use his shadow army to help spy, so he is keeping tabs on the battle from afar. He isn’t able to get too involved, but he is watching events unfold and doing what he can. There is a feeling throughout that he is going to leap into the fight at any moment.

Sticking to the battle at hand keeps things flowing without distraction.

The Ant King emerges in Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 11

It was an interesting decision to leave him on the sidelines for much of the episode, allowing others to shine. Still, Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 11 has no intention of leaving the main hero in the background for too long. Instead of having him jump in as a focal point, a new enemy appears in the dying moments of the episode that gives him an authentic path back into the action.

The Ant King appears, challenging the human king to a battle. At first, the Hunter he faces claims to be the king, but the Ant King doesn’t buy it. This is a perfect segue to Jin-woo, establishing that he is the most powerful out there, and he will have to join the fight now. We don’t actually get to see Jin-woo enter the fight, but his shadow army starts to reveal itself to the Hunters to give them peace of mind that help is on the way.

It also helps that Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 11 sticks to the one storyline. Instead of jumping between various plot points, focusing solely on the battle on Jeju Island gives the story room to breathe. Limiting Jin-woo’s screen time to focus on a singular focal point, the fight against the ants, makes his entering the fray at the end more impactful.

Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 11 gives the other Hunters a chance to shine before dragging Jin-woo into the fray. There is plenty of great action to enjoy, but the reveal at the end shows that the best fight is yet to come.
