Kyle Starks, writer of the I Hate This Place comic series, said: “I love my book I Hate This Place – a labour of horror love with series co-creator and artist Artyom Topiln – so needless to say I’m thrilled to see someone bring it to life in video game form! I can’t wait to get my hands on this game and be trapped on the terrible ranch the book inhabits!”

I Hate This Place | Teaser Trailer | Future Games Show

We are thrilled to reveal I Hate This Place – an isometric open-world survival horror! Inspired by Skybound’s Eisner award-nominated comic book series created by writer Kyle Starks and artist Artyom Topilin, I Hate This Place plunges players deep into a supernatural world where the rules of reality come undone.

What is I Hate This Place about?

In an all-new isometric survival horror experience, delivered in a striking visual style drenched in bold, vivid colours and retro ‘80s comic book aesthetics, each location is lovingly crafted to tell its own disturbing story through stylish visuals that blur the line between reality and nightmare in a world where everything wants you dead.

Players take on the role of Elena, whose fight for survival begins when she unwittingly awakens a malevolent force. Outmatched and hunted in a hostile world, players must think fast, manipulating their surroundings to even the odds against formidable foes, engaging in tense gunfights and melee combat that rewards ingenuity over brute force, all while crafting essential tools to survive the harsh and unforgiving wilderness long enough to reach safehouses before nightfall, with the day & night cycle having an impact on gameplay dynamics. Whatever you do, though, avoid the Horned Man at all costs.

I Hate This Place features bold, vivid colors and unsettling environments, all wrapped up in a gloriously retro ’80s aesthetic with just a hint of camp to lighten the mood. Each location is lovingly crafted to tell its own disturbing story through stylish visuals that blur the line between reality and nightmare.

They say dead men tell no tales. But in this accursed land, every specter has a story waiting to be unearthed. Solve individual hauntings, and you’ll start to glimpse the horrifying reality lurking at the heart of I Hate This Place. But tread carefully – some secrets are buried for good reason.

When is it coming out?

Piotr Babieno, CEO of Bloober Team commented: “We are always looking to push the boundaries of horror in all its forms, and with this new title under Broken Mirror Games, I Hate This Place is a testament to that vision. With its blend of survival mechanics, gripping storytelling, and a distinct visual identity, we believe I Hate This Place will immerse players in a truly unforgettable nightmare.”

As part of a new horror label under Bloober Team (known for The Medium, Layers of Fear, Observer, Silent Hill 2), I Hate This Place will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. You can check it out now on Steam and Epic.
