Red Barrels, the studio behind the immersive indie horror series Outlast, launched The Outlast Trials‘ latest Major Update, Project Breach, this morning. This update introduces the story of asylum escapee Amelia Collier (Caroline Dhavernas; Hannibal), a new Trial, a new environment, a new enemy, and a new player ability (The Jammer Rig).

Set in 1959 at the height of the Cold War, human guinea pigs are involuntarily recruited to test advanced methods of mind control in their nightmare facility. In The Outlast Trials, crush your morals and test your sanity on the path to rebirth as one of Murkoff’s Reagents while discovering the secret documents littered throughout the facility.

The Outlast Trials is the third installment in Red Barrels’ critically acclaimed psychological horror series. In a 4-player co-op, complete escape room-style puzzles while avoiding the twisted victims of Murkoff’s experiments using a combination of stealth, speed, and teamwork. In Project Breach, the new character, Amelia Collier, provides new ground for players to explore the world and story further while also providing a challenge.

In a unique blend of survival horror and online escape room, The Outlast Trials challenges players with Aperture Science-style tests that Jigsaw himself would shudder at. Complete Trials, return to your cell, upgrade your therapies, and steel your nerves to face horrors beyond your imagination. The latest trial and challenges featured in the latest update continue to build on the precedent set by previous trials.

What to expect in Project Breach

The Outlast Trials Project Breach

Project Breach marks a new beginning for The Outlast Trials, introducing new story elements, gameplay features, and challenges for players as one of the Murkoff Corporation’s captives, Amelia Collier, begins to fight back. But any player of the game knows that fighting back against the Murkoff Corporation is anything but easy. But the latest update proves to give plenty for players to tackle and be challenged by.

Update Features:

1) Introducing Amelia Collier | Fueled by grief, Amelia is determined to bring down the Murkoff Corporation and put a stop to their twisted experiments.

2) New Trial | “Pleasure the Prosecutor.”

  • New Environment | “Downtown,” featuring murderous mobster Franco and his teeth-filled shotgun

3) New MK-Challenges:

  •  Reunite the Family | The nuclear family is the societal ideal. Release the orphan from the shackles of the state and reunite him with mother and father.
  • Deface the Futtermans | Childhood memories are the stagnation that impede your growth. Put away the childish things that clutter your mind.

4) New Player Ability | The Jammer Rig, a versatile tool designed to disable electronic devices. Perfect for strategic players, this Rig focuses on disrupting the Trial environment while securing extra loot for you and your teammates.

5) New Story Ending | Set in the Republic of Congo

6) New Enemy: The Molotov | This cunning enemy wields a powerful ranged weapon, hurling Molotov Cocktails that explode on impact, creating dangerous zones of fire.

7) New Limited-Time Event | Winter Kills, with new rewards and Trial variators:

  • COLLECT THE GIFTS: Collect all the gifts in the Trial to earn extra rewards.
  • COLD SNAP: The Trial environment is sporadically filled with piercing cold air. Hide to survive.
  • FROST MINES: Gas mines have been replaced with frost mines.

8) New Unholy Night DLC Pack | Includes an exclusive set of 8 Legendary Outfits, items and art to decorate your Reagent’s cell, and player icons to bring Holiday Fear to The Outlast Trials. Available now for $19.99 USD.

The Outlast Trials and Project Breach are available now on Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation, and Xbox. Step into this psychotic and diabolical world of these games, and maybe…just maybe, you can help Amelia escape from Murkoff Corporation for good.
