REVIEW: ‘Suicide Squad ISEKAI’ — Episode 6

Life in another world is tough, just ask Harley Quinn and the rest of the Suicide Squad. Suicide Squad ISEKAI Episode 6 sees their adventures continue as they try to complete Amanda Waller’s mission and earn their way back home to Earth.

One of the main things Suicide Squad ISEKAI has been trying to do is make viewers care about the Suicide Squad. The whole concept is that yes, they are villains, but they are people (or sharks) too. There is depth to their characters and the goal is to show them in a different light.

Suicide Squad ISEKAI Episode 6 does this right from the start by having Harley witness a massacre of their former monster allies. While the Squad has constantly bickered throughout the series, they don’t even need to speak here before jumping straight into action. They are loyal to those who helped them and it shows that, at some level, they have standards.

It’s a cool moment, seeing them jump into action against these mysterious new elf enemies. The way they work together like seasoned pros despite the fact that they don’t usually get along is really fascinating to watch. It would have been nice for this initial action sequence to be a bit longer, but the more important part is seeing them come together against a common foe once again.

Suicide Squad ISEKAI Episode 6

The reason the action is limited at first is because of the Suicide Squad’s new enemy. The Thinker, alongside Enchantress, is leading the elf army and is seemingly two steps ahead of the Squad at all times. Every coordinated and surprise attack they launch is foiled by The Thinker before it ever has a chance of working. It is fun to watch these moments as they unfold. Every time it looks like the Suicide Squad has a plan, seeing it come crashing down adds to the challenge of their mission.

It also makes them easier to root for. This is a battle between two different alliances of villains, and yet it is so easy to see the Suicide Squad as the good guys. It would be enjoyable enough if they were just fun to watch, but they actually seem like they are fighting for something more than themselves. Sure, there are certainly some ulterior motives, but on the surface, there is a little bit of good in these badass bad guys.

All of this is done through an extended battle sequence where the Suicide Squad keeps getting their teeth kicked in. We get to see villains on both sides flex their literal and figurative muscles as they unleash hell on each other. The Suicide Squad is outmatched, but that doesn’t stop them from fighting on. It is that spirit that makes them the ones to root for and ultimately helps them in the long run.

The way the confrontation ends is a bit disappointing, however. Just when it seems like the Suicide Squad is about to lose and all die, Rick Flag comes in and threatens to blow up The Thinker and his crew. The Thinker calls his bluff, at least at first, but then ultimately just decides to up and leave. It would have been better for there to be some way to know if the bluff was true, but I suppose that is the entire crux of the “bombs in your head” concept. It isn’t the actual act that matters, simply the threat of it.

Suicide Squad ISEKAI Episode 6

The story takes things back to the Kingdom where the Queen and her council continue to prove how awful they are. They are a pack of cowards with no real plan or thoughts of their own other than to bow to their Queen. The Queen herself is horrible, which is what pushes her daughter to start to stand on her own. Princess Fione has been fascinated by the Suicide Squad and now she has to save them from death.

Pitting Fione against her mother and her allies is an interesting choice that has been slowly building throughout the season. Fione is not powerful on her own, she is pretty quickly overruled, but it gives her a chance to work from the shadows to save the Suicide Squad. Her character is arguably the only true “good” one that exists, so the fact that she sees something in the Suicide Squad that is worth saving says something about who they are as people.

Fione and Cecil are being set up in Suicide Squad ISEKAI Episode 6 to be the Suicide Squad’s only real allies. Everyone around them wants them dead, but at least they have someone in power willing to help. It will be interesting to see if that will be enough. The odds are seemingly impossible, but that has not stopped the Suicide Squad before.

Suicide Squad ISEKAI Episode 6 does a good job of progressing the story while also providing enjoyable action sequences. Character development is key here as the plot thickens for the Suicide Squad with the walls of the world closing in around them.
