Decoding Vegapunk’s 6 Exceptional Satellites

Vegapunk’s satellites are the latest new characters to join One Piece. Dr. Vegapunk, the enigmatic figure first mentioned hundreds of episodes ago, holds a prominent role in the series. Now in the Egghead Island Arc, the brilliant scientist finally makes his debut, appearing as a crucial ally to Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. The satellites came with Dr. Vegapunk’s introduction: Shaka, Lilith, Edison, Pythagoras, Atlas, and York.

Before the start of the arc, the doctor was so engrossed with his research and inventions that he found it challenging to do everything with only one body. He also wanted to enable others to access his brain and massive knowledge. Granted, how Vegapunk created the satellites is still being determined. Some theories suggest that satellites could combine clones and robotics, while some look more human or robotic in their design.

Vegapunk divided himself into six distinct individuals known as the satellites and shared all of his knowledge with them. Each satellite possesses its unique personality, quirks, and roles. Although the satellites have their sense of self, they embody specific facets of Vegapunk’s character. For example, satellites like Lilith and York represent his greedy and lazy nature, possibly a play on the Seven Deadly Sins.

Vegapunk’s satellites also have shared speech styles and thought processes; they even refer to themselves as Dr. Vegapunk. However, Vegapunks’s actual body, Stella, is his primary body. Here is everything you need to know about these new One Piece characters.

Shaka

Shaka Vegapunk

Shaka, also known as Punk-01, appears to be an average-sized man who covers his body from head to toe. Most notable is his futuristic helmet with “01” emblazoned on the face. His helmet’s design is also a nod to the group Daft Punk. Of Vegapunk’s satellites, Shaka represents Dr. Vegapunk’s good or moralistic qualities. Shaka is seemingly cautious when it comes to potential dangers. He is essentially the complete opposite of his more evil counterpart, Lilith, who enjoys looting and pillaging ships that approach Egghead Island.

Lilith

Lilith Vegapunk

Lilith, designated as Punk-02, embodies the evil aspects of Dr. Vegapunk’s personality. Lilith appears to be a young woman in an orange dress, pilot attire, and gear. As the designated evil satellite, Lilith is much more malicious and rash than her fellow satellites. Lilith possesses engineering expertise in mechs and robotically enhanced sea beasts, which she pilots and controls when pillaging pirate ships. However, she has been expressing some compassion towards her comrades. Naturally, as excellent and evil satellites, she and Shaka do not always see everything the same way and tend to clash.

Edison

Edison Vegapunk

Edison is a small green robot-like creature with a football-shaped head and appendages that look like rabbit ears on his head. Edison is called Punk-03 and embodies the thinking portion of Dr. Vegapunk’s personality. Though Edison is small in stature, he has boundless amounts of energy when it comes to thinking up new inventions and experiments. Edisom’s role as the thinker has allowed him to bring so many of Vegapunk’s ideas into reality. Which the original Vegapunk struggled to accomplish before he created the satellites. Besides being incredibly intelligent, Edison has a good heart and cares for his allies.

Pythagoras

Pythagoras Vegapunk

Much like Edison, Pythagoras appears to be a robotic creature. He is referred to as Punk-04  and embodies Vegapunk’s wisdom. Pythagoras’ design includes a large body with a detachable head and retractable arms and legs. As the wisdom satellite, Pythagoras is usually the voice of reason and remains calm as he focuses on observing and recording data from the doctor’s inventions. His analytical expertise has helped contribute to the making of Egghead Island and Vegapunk’s technological advancements. Unlike Lilith, Pythagoras is non-violent and prefers peaceful solutions. For example, when the lethal CP0 agents arrive at Egghead, he suggests negotiating peace instead of violence.

Atlas

Atlas Vegapunk

Atlas, assigned Punk-05, is one of the doctor’s most interesting creations as a giant young girl with animal features but appears to be made of metallic parts. Atlas’ height comes close to Kaido’s massive height. Despite her size, she has a very child-like appearance, short curly hair, floppy sheep ears, a tail, and curly pink and white hair. Atlas is Dr. Vegapunk’s violent satellite, exhibiting a very short, impulsive temper when angered or her inventions are not understood. However, Atlas also becomes excited and talkative whenever she explains her inventions.

York

York Vegapunk

Lastly, York, also known as Punk-06, represents Dr. Vegapunk’s greediness. Like Shaka and Lilith, York looks more human-like than the other satellites. Similar to Atlas, York is exceptionally tall. She has long blonde hair, freckles, and blue eyes. Her overall function as the greed satellite is that she is greedy, lazy, and seemingly vapid. York’s primary functions and contributions to Vegapunk are to eat, sleep, and use the bathroom for the other satellites so that they can keep doing their duties. Only a few things are known of York at this point in the anime. As the arc continues, there will surely be more to her character.

Dr. Vegapunk’s satellites not only play a crucial part in his technological advancements but in the Egghead Island Arc as well. Although the arc is still underway, more mysteries will be unveiled, and the true nature of these characters will be revealed as the story continues.
