Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is out today on PC through Steam. The once PlayStation console exclusive launches with the Iki Island expansion included. Ghost of Tsushima initially launched to rave reviews in 2020, with plenty praising it’s world, story, and combat systems. The enhanced Director’s Cut, including the Iki Island expansion, director’s commentary, and more. It’s the next PlayStation title coming to PC, following the success of the likes of Horizon: Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and God of War. The major question that remains is just how does Ghost of Tsushima run on Valve’s handheld, the Steam Deck?
Luckily, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut runs incredibly well on deck. With Nixxes handling the port, who did fantastic work on Marvel’s Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut runs at a stable 30-35fps on Medium settings. The game hovers around 30fps on High, and gets closer to 40-45fps with Very Low and Low settings. It very rarely dips under 30fps on Medium, though it did slightly in the opening battle. Running around the open world and engaging in combat is smooth and I’ve had no technical issues in the first handful of hours. Running as it does out of the box with preset settings is already impressive.
For folks playing on PC, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut also launches with PSN trophy integration and a new overlay. After linking accounts or creating a new one, players will now be able to get both Steam achievements and PSN trophies. PSN has been updated with a new PC tag in the trophy section. If you’ve already unlocked trophies on PS5, they’ll automatically be unlocked on PC when linked. PSN Trophies on PC have been a fan requested feature for a long time, so hopefully this will be the standard moving forward.
While the game does run really well on the Steam Deck, Steam does list as unsupported. Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut requires you to link your PSN account to Steam to be able to play the multiplayer mode, Legends. Windows is required to utilize those PSN settings, while the Steam Deck runs on Linux. Legends is available on Windows with crossplay with console enabled in Beta, allowing players across ecosystems to play together. With the new PlayStation overlay, players can see friends across PS4, PS5, and PC, hopping into parties with voice chat is easier than before. Linking PSN accounts includes early unlocks to the Archery Master’s Attire and Charm of Canine Recruitment.
The PC launch also includes a host of other enhancements, including Ultrawide support, Dualsense support (haptic feedback and adaptive triggers), mouse and keyboard support, and more. Multiplayer aside, the single player experience feels fantastic so far. Ghost of Tsushima is a gorgeous game on console and much isn’t lost in the transition to handheld. I’m so excited to be able to play Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on the go.
Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is out now on PC through Steam and on PS5.
