REVIEW: ‘My New Boss is Goofy’ Episode 10 — “Take Responsibility”

The truth is that My New Boss Is Goofy will never beat the boyfriend allegations, especially when its titles call out romantic tropes in anime and manga. For My New Boss is Goofy Episode 10, and that episode’s name is “Take Responsibility…!” Often heard after a confession or a physical romantic connection is formed, “Take Responsibility” is usually used as a romantic line to move a relationship forward or solidify it. But instead of offering a specific point of responsibility to be taken, My New Boss is Goofy Episode 10 is all about little moments shared between Shirosaki and Momose over their time together.

In this episode, A-1 Pictures captures the manga by mangaka Dan Ichikawa perfectly in this episode by using small vignettes to build out the characters more. Instead of having one overarching story for this episode, the series instead makes bite-sized moments that tell the audience more about the characters, offer laughs, and ultimately let you see them in a number of situations that pay off by embracing different manga tropes like going to a lantern festival together as a group.

With an Autumnal theme, we watch a quick hits type of episode recounting goofy moments. As the days pass, Momose continues living together with Shirosaki, teaches him how to enjoy his day off, and accompanies him to the vet with Haruto. This episode also shows the two going on rounds in a car together, attending a festival, and even Shirosaki’s miscommunication about acorns—which he begins to gather to make Momose happy. It’s small moments packaged into an episode that is just too sweet.

My New Boss is Goofy Episode 10

Every episode of My New Boss Is Goofy focuses heavily on Momose overcoming the trauma caused by his former boss. While his nervousness isn’t gone in these vignettes, they focus instead on his life now and the joy there. Instead of constantly referring to the past, Episode 10 captures the present. It doesn’t ignore it, with some moments standing out for the two as they discuss the nervousness.

That said, this episode is lighter as it breaks the previous formula for the series. Each vignette is wholesome and endearing, making you root for Momose and Shirosaki as they grow closer. For fans of shipping, this episode is filled with dating moments that would be the case if it were a true rom-com and not an office comedy using tropes. That said, it loses nothing because of this. Instead, it grows even more lovely. This is the most true for “Day Off,” a vignette that shows Shirosaki and Momose spending their day off together, first at a restaurant and then a park where they ride in an eyebrowed-swan that is supposed to keep couples togehter.

Is My New Boss is Goofy Episode 10 deep? No. Is it an injection of wholesome into your day in a world constantly on fire? Yes. Sometimes, that’s all an episode needs to be.

My New Boss Is Goofy Episode 10 is streaming now on Crunchyroll, with new episodes every Saturday.
