Netflix has been knocking it out of the park with its original K-drama slate. While there are amazing shows currently simulcasted, there are also those produced just for the platform, and others still have found a home on Netflix for American audiences to watch. One of the most recent K-drama series, Sweet Home is an adaptation of the action-horror WEBTOON of the same name written by Kim Carnby and illustrated by Youngchan Hwang. The series has been trending on Netflix since its debut last weekend, and it’s also left some asking: What do I watch now? So, we put together a list of other Korean series to watch after Sweet Home.

To add a little context, in Sweet Home, we meet Hyun Soo, a 19-year-old loner who was forced to leave his home and his school after an unexpected family tragedy. His new home is the Green Home apartment complex. Dilapidated and filled with unique, mysterious, and questionable tenants, Green Home is supposed to be an escape but it quickly becomes much scarier as the tenants start to become monsters, leaving them all to band together and fight for their lives. So, we put together a list of supernatural, magical, action-driven, monster-filled, and horror K-dramas to watch after Sweet Home. While they might not all be as horror-based, they do all offer elements that will pull you in after your watch. With Sweet Home Season 2 out now, find out what to watch next.

Black

Black

Stars: Seung-heon Song, Ara Go, El Lee

“A man possessed by death. A woman who can see death. The earthly and the afterworld collide dangerously.“

Why You Should Watch: Supernatural grim reaper, fight scenes, and of course, discussions of trauma that work well. While this series is not filled with monsters, it does deal with death, grieving, and a mystery plot that makes it worth the watch if you enjoyed those things in Sweet Home.

All of Us Are Dead

All of Us Are Dead - But Why tho

Stars: Park Ji-hu, Lee Yoo-Mi, Lomon, Lee Yoo-Mi

“A virus outbreak occurs at Hyosan High School, and the infected quickly turn into human-eating zombies. Students at the high school must now fight for their lives while they look for a way out.”

Why You Should Watch: One of the core themes of Sweet Home Season 1 was the amount of bullying that our lead character went through. Like many Korean dramas set in a high school, regardless of genre, All of Us Are Dead also deals with that and brings out ramifications for the perpetrators after pushing the audience to explore morality and fear. Plus, I mean, zombies.

Kingdom

Kingdom Season 2 Netflix Original

Stars: Ji-Hoon Ju, Bae Doona, Kim Sungkyu

“While strange rumors about their ill King grip a kingdom, the crown prince becomes their only hope against a mysterious plague overtaking the land.“

Why You Should Watch: One word: Zombies. This series currently has two seasons and is based on the manwha, Kingdom of the Gods. It offers political intrigue, stunning zombie lore, and some of the best costume design you’ll see on television.

The Uncanny Counter

Uncanny Counter - What to Watch After Sweet Home

Stars: Byeong-gyu Jo, Joon-Sang Yoo, Se-Jeong Kim

“Noodle shop employees by day and demon hunters by night, the Counters use special abilities to chase down malevolent spirits that prey on humans.“

Why You Should Watch: Also based on a webcomic named  Amazing Rumor, this one features amazing crafted evil spirits and stellar action sequences that keep you both engaged and entertained.

The Guest

the guest - What to Watch After Sweet Home

Stars: Dong-wook Kim, Kim Jae-Wook, Jung Eun-chae

“A psychic, a Catholic priest, and a detective team up to fight crimes caused by supernatural forces.“

Why You Should Watch: The Guest is one of my favorite horror series – possession, religion, and all the common horror tropes around them are in this one. But, it also showcases clever subversion and great effects work.

Goedam

Goedam - the guest - What to Watch After Sweet Home

Stars: Ga-rim Han, Seola, Chae-yun Song

“When night falls on the city, shadows and spirits come alive in this horror anthology series centered on urban legends.“

Why You Should Watch: A horror anthology unlike anything else – this one is for the horror buffs who stumbled on Sweet Home.

Strangers from Hell

strangers from hell - what to watch after sweet home

Stars: Rae-Hyung Cha, Lee Dong-Wook, Si-wan Yim

“Yoon JongWoo arrives in Seoul from the countryside and he is staying in a cheap apartment which shares its kitchen and bathroom with other residents. He doesn’t like the other residents who seem weird and suspicious.“

Why You Should Watch: Apartment complex horror/thriller based on a webcomic? Sound familiar? Based on the Naver WEBTOON (Hell is Other People), this one offers up the expanded cast character dynamics and a deep mystery to keep you beyond interested.

Possessed

possessed - what to watch after sweet home

Stars: Han Sun Jo, Jun-hee Ko, Sae-byeok Song

“Kang Pil Sung works as a detective. His instincts as a detective are excellent and he is foul-mouthed. He is both lazy and rough, but he is also soft-hearted. Hong Seo Jung has excellent psychic mediumship, but she tries to hide her ability. This causes her to keep a distance from other people and she lives a lonely life. While Kang Pil Sung investigates a case, he happens to meet Hong Seo Jung. He thinks that she is different from others and takes an interest in her. They begin to solve cases together using their special abilities.“

Why You Should Watch: Pil Sung and Seo Jung are a dynamic duo that showcases different elements of character development – through a nice twist. While this one is more about crime and detectives, the character work from our leads is a reason to check it out – if you liked the characters in Sweet Home.

Rugal

Rugal - What to Watch After Sweet Home

Stars: Choi Jin-Hyuk, Dong-Hyuk Cho, Hye-in Jeong

“Based off the webtoon of the same name, it’s the story of a police officer whose attempt to bring down a nationwide criminal organization ends up with him losing everything he holds dear.“

Why You Should Watch: Rugal features biomechanically altered humans doing superhero things, questions of morality, and smashing fight choreography.

The School Nurse Files

The School Nurse Files

Stars: Jung Yu-mi, Nam Joo-Hyuk, Shim Dal Gi

“Ahn Eun Young, a school nurse who has powers that allow her to chase ghosts, is appointed to a new high school where mysterious incidents take place.“

Why You Should Watch: Monsters! The creativity that goes into the secret world that Eun Young can see in this series is second to none and well worth the watch if creature design stunned you in Sweet Home. While this has a lighter tone, it offers up the same amount of depth.

Spanning genre, this list is meant to help fans of Sweet Home find their next binge. With so many new eyes on the series that may not have watched a K-drama before, it’s important to note that the category of K-drama is broad and encompasses many genres within it. So take our recommendations and use them to find more series to add to your watch list. With Season 2 already in development, now is the time to start getting ready.
