To your eternity episode 13

Thanks to Messer, the group finally managed to obtain the full cooperation of the Princess. Now, as the work continues unabated, Fushi finds it becoming an ever greater struggle to hide his identity from the people of Renril in To Your Eternity Season 2 Episode 13.

This week’s episode splits its time primarily between Fushi and Ecko. From Ecko’s side of the episode, we see the young girl trying in her small ways to help out those around her. She tries to help alleviate Fushi’s hardships as he pushes himself ever harder to get Renril ready for the Nokker attack through some sweet thoughtfulness that provides some genuine warmth to the episode. She also manages to help the city in a larger and far more unexpected way. Ecko remains a sweet side character and a small joy to follow along with. I love how the show presents Ecko and her simple energy. The visuals do a great job of expressing her enthusiasm and spirit. Unfortunately, her small moments of sweetness are the bulk of the appeal To Your Eternity Season 2 Episode 13 delivers.

Fushi’s side of the story is where the episode lags severely. Fushi continues to rebuild the city, tearing down and replacing structures at a rapid pace. While he claims to be fine, the work is clearly taking a toll on him, as is being connected to so much of the city through his new construction. He is acutely aware of the hardships of the city, but cannot afford the time to stop and help as much as he would like. While there is a moment or two where these struggles could lead to interesting character moments, they are instead brushed aside so Fushi can continue his work. This lends Fushi’s side of the tale to bring little to To Your Eternity Season 2 Episode 13 save to reemphasize what had already been stated.

While Fushi’s side of the story meanders far too much, I did appreciate how the visuals present Fushi’s growing exhaustion. He is frequently seen collapsing from the houses he has just built and is seen moving at a far more sluggish pace and with a slumped posture. These visual cues all help the viewer know what Fushi is feeling, despite the character’s insistence that he is fine.

This episode’s struggles feel like they may get helped by a dramatic ending, but that ultimately doesn’t pan out either. It’s hard to complain about the ending of this episode, as it is the best possible outcome for a situation that takes shape in the last third of the story, but due to how smoothly it gets there, the situation ultimately does little to help save this episode’s mediocre performance.

Ultimately, To Your Eternity Season 2 Episode 13 delivers little but slow filler. A few sweet moments from Ecko and a potentially harsh confrontation that fizzles are not enough to pull this meandering story out of the solidly fine level of television it finds itself in.

To Your Eternity Season 2 Episode 13 is streaming now on Crunchyroll.
