After Adam fails to speak the truth in the last issue, Seven To Eternity #15 opens up with Garils and Adam having a heart-to-heart. However, Garils’s attempt to make Adam see the light is interrupted by the explosive entrance of Garils’ son, The Piper. Out for revenge and overcome with jealousy, even Garils can’t stop The Piper as he turns the people against them. With the situation becoming direr and direr, Garils must face his son and Adam must face his fate. Seven To Eternity #15 is written by Rick Remender, drawn by Jerome Opeña, colored by Matt Hollingsworth, lettered by Rus Wooton, and published by Giant Generator in collaboration with Image Comics.
Seven To Eternity #15 begins as all other issues have: with an entry from Adam’s journal. Over the course of the series, these entries have been used for various purposes, but this one talks about Adam’s experience with death. After failing the trial in issue 14, Adam’s heart stopped for a few seconds before Garils manage to restart it. In this handful of moments, Adam experienced numerous memories and regrets, all revolving around his family. Alone, these haunting experiences mean little; but they speak even louder when compared to the events at the end of this issue.

Adam has changed over the course of this entire series, and it really hits home in this issue. Whereas in issue one, Adam set out on his journey to confront the Mud King for the benefit of his family, thoughtlessly putting his loved ones before his own health, this issue paints Adam in a very different light. And it’s in these 30 pages that Adam also realizes just what has changed about himself, and he does the unspeakable. This progression from issue one to now has been organic and not at all unexpected with how slow the progression has been. But expected as it may be, it doesn’t nullify the dread of what’s to come in the next issue as a result of Adam’s actions.
Although we don’t see a change in the setting from the last issue, the artwork continues to amaze. With the reintroduction of The Piper, Opeña captures him wonderfully, from the tentacles sprouting from the ground to the monstrous hounds he summons. The people populating these pages are diverse, wonderfully detailed, and absolutely fantastical. Hollingsworth’s color palette brings the Land of Zhal to life and brings out each panel’s tone, flitting between the vibrancy of crackling lights to the wash of oranges and reds in violent panels following The Piper’s arrival. This issue is absolutely gorgeous.
Wooton’s letters help readers along with speech bubbles that are easy to follow and never overshadow the characters. The use of different bubble borders and fonts to represent the differences between inner monologue, The Piper’s dialogue, and the dialogue of people who The Piper is controlling further improve the readability and amplify the tone of each panel.
Seven To Eternity #15 is another excellent issue in this fantastical series. Adam finally faces his fate and accepts the changes in himself while the artwork is still just as gorgeous as the first issue. The next issue is going to be hard to wait for.
