The Pitt Season 2 Episode 14 features some great patient stories as it tries to wrap up some of the day shift drama, to varying degrees of success. The day shift continues to hang around to catch up on charting, but it’s clear that without a big event like the mass shooting fallout to justify everyone sticking around long past their shift, their presence is a little awkward.
Is it realistic that doctors stay long past their shift? Yes. But for narrative purposes, it falls more on the boring and anticlimactic side of the show. They even send Whitaker (Gerran Howell) off on a hunt for his name badge, a silly callback to his wardrobe malfunctions from Season 1, but it also feels like they’re just biding time until these characters all have to leave.
Robby’s (Noah Wyle) still on his quest to make sure the place doesn’t fall apart while he’s away in The Pitt Season 2 Episode 14. He confronts Javadi (Shabana Azeez) about her TikTok videos, admonishing her for violating HIPAA despite not having watched a single video. Javadi takes a stab back at him, calling out the chaos of the day and the trauma of the ICE agents coming through and arresting patients and staff.
Robby’s attitude issues come to a head in The Pitt Season 2 Episode 14.

McKay tells Robby to back off Javadi’s TikToks, especially since he hasn’t actually seen them. The videos talk a lot about mental health. And, in fact, Javadi is using them right now to help determine where Jesse was taken. His attitude throughout The Pitt Season 2 finally culminates in The Pitt Season 2 Episode 14. Making a crude statement that Mohan’s patient, Orlando, should have jumped from a higher ledge garners him another meeting with Caleb. Caleb doesn’t manage to stop Robby from leaving, but does get him to agree to call him from the road.
A lot of people finally confront Robby, but it’s Duke that gets a full confession out of him in The Pitt Season 2 Episode 14. After an ambulance hits Robby’s bike pulling into the ambulance bay, Duke offers to fix it up for Robby and tries to get him to agree to bring it in a day or so. Like others, Duke can sense that Robby’s trip is one-way, but Duke has a bargaining chip. He tells Robby that he’ll only do the surgery and go to his follow-up appointments if Robby returns from his trip. This prompts Robby to finally admit that he doesn’t really feel like existing anymore.
The ER is the only place he can distract himself enough, but otherwise, he just needs to ride and get away. Duke calls it running, and points out that despite how much he’s trying to make sure everyone who works for him is in a good spot before he goes, running away from this place and from his life isn’t a lesson he should leave everybody with.
It takes an old friend to break down Robby’s shell, revealing a darker side to Robby’s headspace.

It’s a powerful scene that explores the burnout and suicidal ideation that medical workers face over the course of their careers. It’s also a great payoff to Robby’s apathetic attitude all season and gives reason to his many outbursts and lack of empathy all shift.
Langdon’s (Patrick Ball) back starts hurting in The Pitt Season 2 Episode 14, and he goes to the break room to take some Tylenol, during which Whitaker walks in. The two have an awkward encounter, but it ends with Whitaker asking Langdon to stop treating him like a sidekick.
The confrontation feels a little out of nowhere, but it’s interesting to see Langdon respect Whitaker’s standing up to him when he didn’t seem to appreciate Santos’s standing up to him a few episodes ago. That one was obviously charged on both sides, but Langdon pushed back hard against Santos and got defensive, especially after Santos wouldn’t accept his apology.
But never fear, Langdon earns his confidence back after admitting he feels like he returned to work too early when a new patient arrives in The Pitt Season 2 Episode 14. This is an excellent opportunity to prove he’s just as good as he was before.
Despite another confrontation, Langdon gets a moment to shine in The Pitt Season 2 Episode 14.

A car accident leaves a patient on the verge of becoming paraplegic, but Langdon’s quick thinking and Robby’s tough love encouragement have Langdon performing a risky neck realignment procedure, referred to as a closed reduction, that has Crus and Robby holding the patient down while Langdon maneuvers the patient’s neck around until it locks back into the right place. It’s not fun to watch, but it saves the patient’s life and his quality of life and prompts Robby to tell Langdon, “nice job,” obviously impressed.
Watching Langdon regain that confidence so quickly is rewarding, especially given how impressed Crus, Robby, and Abbott were with the procedure he performed. Soon after, Dana tells Langdon he received a call from upstairs about a drug test he was supposed to take at the top of the hour, so that sends him running off.
It’s probably the only payoff that actually works in The Pitt Season 2 Episode 14. Even though some day shift people still stick around, others continue to leave, including Monica, leaving Monica’s increasingly obvious racism to go unchecked. The past few episodes felt like they were building toward something, especially in the aftermath of the ICE episode, but nothing happens. Monica simply leaves.
We get answers about Al-Hashimi, but are they too little, too late?

There’s also finally an answer to the mystery surrounding Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi), but the decision to tell Robby about her condition comes out of nowhere. She presents her symptoms to Robby as if it’s any other case, referring to the patient’s history with seizures since the age of five, but it’s been under control for years. Before she can explain what’s been happening today, Robby realizes that the chart he’s looking at is Al-Hashimi, and then The Pitt Season 2 Episode 14 ends.
The Pitt Season 2 Episode 14 mostly acts as a payoff for Robby’s deteriorating mental health when Duke finally gets a confession out of him. However, a lot of the characters feel like they’re treading water until the finale, and the mystery around Al-Hashimi still feels a little too late in the season.
The Pitt Season 2 airs new episodes at 8 p.m. Central every Thursday on HBO Max.
